How to set up a scheduled scan in Windows Defender under the WIN10 system

WIN10 with anti-virus software Windows Defender, the default daily scheduled scan. This would have been a good thing, but when it comes to scanning, it will inevitably clash if you catch a high-speed computer operation. In fact, we can set Windows Defender plan Scan, how to set it?

Open the Local Group Policy Editor (method for starting Group Policy Editor under the WIN10 System), and in the left navigation Pane, navigate to the Computer configuration-Administrative Templates-windows component-windows defender-scan. As shown in figure:

You can then scroll down the list to the bottom of the right-hand window to see a series of options related to the Windows Defender Plan Scan.

First, specify the time interval to run a quick scan daily

Double-click the configuration key to open the configuration window. As shown in figure:

Use this policy setting to specify the time interval for performing a quick scan. The time value is represented by the number of hours between the two fast scans. Valid values range between 1 (hourly) and 24 (once a day). If set to 0, a time interval quick scan is not performed. By default, this setting is set to 0.

If you enable this setting, the quick scan runs at a specified time interval.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, a quick scan is run at the default time.

The default is "Not Configured," which is to run the quick scan only at the default time, and the default time is set in the "Five" specify the time to run the Quick scan per day configuration item below.

Setup Recommendation: We don't have to have Windows Defender scanned more than once a day, so this item remains "Not configured."

Second, start a scheduled scan only if the computer is open but not in use

Double-click the configuration key to open the configuration window. As shown in figure:

Using this policy setting, you can configure to scan only when the computer is turned on but not using a status startup plan.

If you enable or do not configure this setting, the scheduled scan is run only if the computer is open but not in use.

If you disable this setting, scheduled scans will run at scheduled times.

Enabling this configuration item will allow your computer to be idle to run Windows Defender scheduled scans, so you can avoid scanning while you are working to affect system performance, as described at the beginning of this article.

Set up recommendations: set to Enabled to prevent Windows Defender scheduled scans from affecting your work.

Iii. Specify the type of scan to use for scheduled scans

Double-click the configuration key to open the configuration window. As shown in figure:

Use this policy setting to specify the type of scan to use during a scheduled scan. Scan type options are as follows:

1 = Quick Scan (default)

2 = Full Scan

If you enable this setting, the scan type is set to the specified value.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the default scan type is used.

Setup recommendations: In general, the daily plan scan using a quick scan can be, do not need every time time-consuming system resources to complete the scan, so keep the default "Not Configured", that is, fast scan can

Iv. specify different days of the week to run scheduled scans

Double-click the configuration key to open the configuration window. As shown in figure:

Using this policy setting, you can specify a different day of the week to perform a scheduled scan. You can also configure the scan to run daily or never run.

You can configure this setting with the following ordinal value:

(0x0) every day

(0x1) Sunday

(0x2) Monday

(0x3) Tuesday

(0x4) Wednesday

(0x5) Thursday

(0x6) Friday

(0x7) Saturday

(0x8) never (default)

If you enable this setting, scheduled scans are run at the specified frequency.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the scheduled scan runs at the default frequency.

Configuration recommendation: The default is "Not Configured", which will be scheduled for the default frequency (that is, daily). If you feel that you usually pay attention to the security of using the computer and the network, the risk of poisoning is relatively low, then there is no need to scan every day, so you can set to "Enabled", and then one day a week, you can specify the day you work less. And this day, the timing of the scheduled scan depends on the setting of "two, start a scheduled scan only when the computer is open but not in use," "Five, specify when to run the quick scan every day" or "six, specify the schedule scan at different times of the day".

Specify the time to run a fast scan every day

Double-click the configuration key to open the configuration window. As shown in figure:

Use this policy setting to specify a daily quick scan at different times of the day. The time value is represented by a number of minutes (00:00) exceeding midnight. For example, 0x78 is equivalent to 02:00 AM. By default, this setting is set to the time value 2:00 AM. Schedule the local time on the computer that is performing the scan.

If you enable this setting, the daily quick scan will run at the specified time of day.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the daily quick scan is run at the default time.

Configuration recommendations: This you can set the daily fast scan time for you to work less hours, such as the noon meal time computer is not shutdown, you can set up this time for Windows Defender Quick Scan.

Note: The previous setting of "Start a scheduled scan only if the computer is open but not in use" overrides the time set here, and the "four-day schedule scan for different days of the week" will overwrite the "every day" here.

Six, specify different time of day to run scheduled scan

Double-click the configuration key to open the configuration window. As shown in figure:

Using this policy setting, you can specify a scheduled scan at different times of the day. The time value is represented by a number of minutes (00:00) exceeding midnight. When the previous "Specify scan type for scheduled scans" is set to Quick Scan, this configuration entry is equivalent to "five, specify the time to run a fast scan every day", otherwise this is the time to set the "full Scan", which is to add a full scan beyond the quick scan.

Configuration recommendation: If the previous scheduled scan type is set to Quick scan, and "Five, specify the time to run the fast scan every day" has been set, so there is no need to set up, only when the scan type is "full Scan", you can set the scan time, the same can be set to the computer more idle time.

Note: The previous setting of "Start a scheduled scan only if the computer is open but not in use" overrides the time set here, and the "four-day schedule scan for different days of the week" will overwrite the "every day" here.

As a result, detailed planning scanning information is set, such as requiring the computer to be turned on but not using the state for scanning, and setting the time to run a quick scan, so detailed and thoughtful setup information will make Windows Defender the best use efficiency.
