The role of mail service in the network is becoming more and more important. Whether on the Internet or within the LAN, users are used to using e-mail to handle daily work. More and more enterprises and organizations are eager to have their own internal email servers to enhance information exchange between employees. So how should we implement it? This article will introduce the establishment and application process of the internal email server in detail.
I. Solution Selection
The solution mentioned here is actually the choice of the software for setting up the mail server. At present, there are a lot of software for such features, such as CmailServer, EyouMailServer, and Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server. In comparison, the Exchange 2003 Server Software Based on the operating system has complete functions, simple installation and setup, and can be seamlessly linked with the Windows operating system. The following processes are mainly based on this software.
Ii. configuration process
You do not need to consider bandwidth, IP address, domain name registration, and other issues when constructing and implementing the Intranet email service system. To implement email services within a LAN, three services are required: DNS, SMTP, and POP3. The specific installation and configuration process is as follows:
1. Prepare the Operating System
Before installing and configuring the Exchange 2003 Server software, you must first prepare the operating system and other related services.
Step 1: Install Windows Server 2003 here of course. After the installation is complete, configure the TCP/IP attribute of the Server and specify the IP address for the Server. It is assumed as "192.168.1.1 ".
Step 2: Install IIS. Choose "Control Panel"> "Add/delete programs"> "Add/delete Windows components", and then select "Internet Information Service (IIS)" in the displayed window; you must select the "SMTP Service" Service option under the IIS Service.
Step 3: Install the Windows Server 2003 Active Directory. To install the Active Directory, you must run the Active Directory Installation Wizard. Installing the Active Directory is also the process of creating a domain controller. Before installation, make sure that the NIC Driver is correctly installed on the local machine and the IP address is properly set.
A: Choose Start> program> Management Tools> server configuration. Click Active Directory on the left of the server configuration management window, and then click Start Active Directory wizard ", open the wizard window.
B: click Next. In the "domain control type" dialog box, select the domain controller of the new domain; in the "create directory tree or subdomain" dialog box, select the "Create a new domain directory tree" check box. In the "new domain name" dialog box, enter the DNS full name of the new domain, such as sy.com; enter the NetBIOS domain name in the "Domain NetBIOS name" text box or accept the name displayed.
C: The subsequent settings can be completed as prompted. After the settings are completed, the system starts to configure the Active Directory, and the "Configuring Active Directory" dialog box opens to display the configuration process. After a few minutes, the configuration is complete. In addition, the "Complete Active Directory Installation Wizard" dialog box is displayed, as shown in. Click "finish" to complete the installation of the Active Directory.
Tip: the Active Directory is a core component of the Windows platform. the Active Directory Service provides a way to manage the labels and relationships of various objects that make up the network environment. Windows Server 2003 makes it easier to manage, migrate, and deploy active directories.
2. Install the Exchange 2003 Server
Before installing the Exchange server, you must create the first Administrator account for your Exchange organization to manage the installation and resources of the Exchange server in the future. First, create a user in AD, and then add the user to the domain administrator and local administrator group.
The Installation Process of the Specific Exchange 2003 Server is relatively simple. The specific operations are as follows:
Insert Exchange Server 2003 CD into the CD-ROM drive; then select the installation path in; then enter any combination of names after the organization name is required; other procedures are completed as prompted. After the installation is complete, you will find an additional drive name in my computer, which is the virtual storage space of Exchange.
Next, create an email account in the Active Directory. The procedure is as follows:
In the "Active Directory Users and computers" Window of the management tool, right-click the "Users" option on the left to create a user; in the displayed new user window, set the user name and password as needed.
3. Client Configuration
After the preceding settings are complete, the mail service on the server is set up. Then you can configure the client. Generally, the client configuration can be performed in either browser or mail client, such as IE or Outlook Express. The following sections describe:
1) IE mode.
That is, sending and receiving emails online. Enter the email server IP Address/exchange in the address bar of the browser, and a logon window will pop up, enter the account you just created in the "Active Directory users and computers" window on the server to log on. Enter the Exchange mail sending and receiving interface to send and receive and manage emails online.
2) Outlook Express mode.
After starting Outlook Express, select "Account"> "add" in the "Tools" menu and enter the email address as prompted, fill in the IP address of the Exchange 2003 Server on both the receiving and sending email servers, as shown in 192.168.1.1 in this document. After the setting is complete, emails can be sent and received normally, which is basically the same as sending and receiving emails in the Internet environment.
Tip: If you want to use Outlook Express to send and receive emails from Internet and LAN, you only need to set the accounts of both parties in "Account" in the "Tools" menu. For ease of use, you can set the mail account of more than one party as the default account.
