For small and medium-sized enterprises, some resources need to be shared in the LAN. However, if a user finds a file, he or she needs to find it on different machines. This will not only delay time, but also greatly reduce the enthusiasm of employees; wouldn't it greatly improve work efficiency if I used a computer to concentrate all the files needed inside the Enterprise? This can be done by setting up a dedicated FTP server in the LAN.

FTP (file transfer protocol) is one of the most widely used transmission protocols in TCP/IP. TCP/IP supports various LAN and WAN connections, including Ethernet, Token-Ring, SDDI, Wireless LAN, X.25 SVC, PVC, and Frame Relay.

Install and set the FTP server

System Server type: Windows 2000 Server

FTP Server name: Serv-u ftp Server 4.1

The establishment of FTP servers can be performed on many platforms, but the Windows 2000 Server platform is suitable for small and medium enterprises. Because the user-friendly design of Windows allows server administrators to complete system management and maintenance without having to receive formal training.

The installation of Serv-u ftp Server 4.1 is now underway.

Install Serv-u ftp Server 4.1 on Windows 2000 Server. We recommend that you select the default option during the installation process. After the installation is complete, you can see the relevant files in "Start> program> Serv-u ftp Server.

The most important part of Serv-u ftp Server 4.1 is its settings. For example, if the local IP address is "192.168.0.1", a DNS record for the domain name "ftp.mycalf.com" has been established. First open the Serv-umanager, that is, the "Setup Wizard" (Setup Wizard) appears ). This wizard helps you easily complete basic settings and select "Next ).

Follow these steps:

(1) IP address: Enter "192.168.0.1 ". (If dynamic IP addresses are used or no valid IP addresses exist, this item should be left blank .)

(2) Domain name: Enter "ftp.bbc.com ".

(3) Install as system server (to be installed as a system server): Select "Yes ".

(4) Allow anonymous access (Do You Want To accept anonymous logon): Select Yes as needed, for example ".

(5) Anonymous home directory (Anonymous home directory): enter (or select) a home directory for Anonymous users to log on.

(6) Lock anonymous users in to their home directory (Lock the user in the selected home directory): whether to set the home directory in the previous step as the root directory of the user, select "Yes ".

(7) Create named account (do you want to Create another account): If you want to Create a normal logon user account, select "Yes ".

(8) Account login name (User login name): Common User Account name, such as "mycalf ".

(9) Password: Set the user Password. Because the entered password is displayed in plain text (rather than *), only once is entered.

(10) Home directory: enter (or select) The Home directory of the user.

(11) Lock anonymous users in to their home directory (Lock the user in the main directory): Select "Yes ".

(12) Account admin privilege (Account Management privilege): Generally, the default value "No privilege" (common Account) is used ).

(13) Finish the setting.

Now an FTP server has been set up. The server address is "ftp.mycalf.com". There are two users under it. One is Anonymous user "Anonymous" and the password is blank; the password of mycalf is the content entered in the Wizard.

The following describes the basic permission settings of a user. Select "mycalf" user in the left-side pane and set the window in the right-side pane. Select "Dir Access" to set whether the user has "Read" and "Write" operations on the file in its main directory (that is, "Path), "Append" (write and add), "Delete" (Delete), "Execute" (Execute); whether to have "List" for the directory (display the List of files and directories), "Create" (new directory), "Remove" (modify directory, including deleting, moving, and renaming), and "Inherit" (whether the preceding permission includes the directory tree below it) and so on.

Manually add an FTP server

If you do not want to follow the Wizard to generate an FTP site, you can also manually add an FTP server.

Domain settings:

<Local Server> >=> <Local Server>

License => License (check whether the software is registered)

Settings => Settings (here we will set some basic server parameters)

Activity => Activity (view who has logged on to the FTP server)

Domains => domain (this is the place where the FTP server is set. Here, you can set permissions for users and users .)

In Domains, click right and select the first option (new domain). The first step is to write the IP address of the current server. Click Next after writing to enter the second step. You can also write the FTP site name or description, but note that the value is unique. Set the port to the next step. The default FTP port is port 21. You can also change it to another port. Step 4: select the region where the domain should be stored. It is preferred for small. ini files and provides faster performance for large domains (> 500 users. Generally, the first. ini file storage is selected.

Add User:

Settings => Settings (here we will set some basic parameters for this domain)

Activity => Activity (view who is logged on to the domain)

Users => User (set Users who can log on to the FTP server here)

GroUPS => group (set group information)

Here, we will mainly introduce "Users", because the most basic settings of the FTP server are here.

In "Users", click "right" and select "new user. To create an Anonymous site, set the username to "Anonymous" and the password to null. Step 3: select the Home Directory, that is, the place where the file is stored. Step 4: Check whether the user is locked in the main directory. Select "yes" for security purposes ". Click Finish to create a user. (For user permission settings, see the wizard Settings section .)

Now the FTP server has been basically set up. How can I use it?

You can refer to the internal settings of the FTP site. Administrators can create directories in different categories and create small classes in different categories, which makes it easier for users to search. For example, you can create a category named "document". Under it, you can create the names of some departments as small classes, and the documents of these departments can be stored in small classes.

FTP enables systematic file management, greatly reducing the time required to search for data and Improving the efficiency.
