How to Set up network printer sharing for multi-host sharing
In small enterprises, computers such as Windows 2003 Server operating systems are generally not installed as printing servers, but dual-Host Printing and sharing are used between computers equipped with Windows XP, this is the print sharing between equal networks, so the problem is similar to the problem of file sharing. The computers that provide the Shared printing service are called "print servers", and other computers that need to be shared over the Internet are called "workstations ".
Sharing of Dual-machine printers
1. The network neighbor of the workstation cannot browse the host that provides the shared Print Service.
2. Unable to browse network neighbors on workstation
3. shared printer not found on workstation
4. Shared printing was available. Today, all workstations suddenly cannot be printed. If a printer is added, the printer on that host cannot be found. The password is required to access the host. Click the installed printer to display that no access is allowed.
Solve the Problem of Win XP printing and sharing
When searching for shared problems, we first need to ping the print server from the workstation to confirm that there is no problem with the network link.
Print Sharing is the same as file sharing. First, the dual-host in the same network can achieve shared communication. This requires that the basic network components required for communication be correctly installed before resolving printer problems.
Step 1: Check whether NetBIOS is enabled for the TCP/IP protocol on the two servers
To achieve shared communication between two servers, you must bind the NetBIOS protocol to the TCP/IP protocol to resolve the computer name. Therefore, check whether the NetBIOS on the TCP/IP protocol is enabled.
1. Click Start> Control Panel> network connection ".
2. Right-click "Local Connection" and click "properties ".
3. Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". First, check whether the configured IP address belongs to the same network segment, and then click "properties ".
4. Click "advanced"-"wins ".
5. Under "NetBIOS Settings", click "enable NetBIOS on TCP/IP" and then click "OK" twice.
6. Click Close ".
Step 2: Check whether the "Microsoft network file and print sharing" feature has been installed on the dual-host and ensure that it is not blocked by the Windows Firewall.
In the General tab in the "Local Connection Properties" window above, check whether Microsoft Network files and print shares have been installed. If not, follow the steps below.
1. Click Start> Control Panel> network connection ".
2. Right-click "Local Connection" and click "properties ".
3. Click the "General" tab and then click "Install ".
4. Click "service", and then click "add ".
5. In the network service list, Click file and print sharing for Microsoft network, and then click OK ".
6. Click Close ".
Check whether the "file and printer sharing" function is blocked by the Windows Firewall. The method is as follows:
1. Click Start, click control panel, and click Windows Firewall ".
2. on the "General" tab, make sure that the "do not allow exceptions" check box is not selected (that is, do not tick ).
3. Click the "exceptions" tab.
4. On the "exceptions" tab, check the "file and printer sharing" check box and click "OK ".
Step 3: Check whether the "Computer Browser Service" status on the dual-host is "enabled"
Check whether the status of the "Computer Browser Service" is "enabled". If the status of "Computer Browser Service" is blank, the service is not enabled, to enable the "Computer Browser Service" that has been disabled, follow these steps:
1. Right-click my computer on the desktop and Click Manage ".
2. Click "services and applications"-"services ".
3. Right-click "Computer Browser" on the right and then click "start ".
4. Close the "Computer Management" window.
Step 4: Check the status of the guest (guest) account on the printing server, and check whether the local security policy prevents guest from accessing this computer from the network, check that the Local Security Policy "Empty Password users can only log on to the console" is enabled.
In general, network printing and sharing are accessed using the guest (guest) account just like file sharing. for some reasons, you must ensure that the Guest account is enabled and the password never expires, make sure that the Local Security Policy does not reject the Guest user. The Local Security Policy "Empty Password users can only log on to the console" is disabled.
The Guest account is disabled by default in the XP system, so that other machines in the LAN cannot access the shared resources of the machine. Therefore, you must enable the Guest account. To check whether the Guest account is enabled, follow these steps:
1. Right-click my computer on the desktop and click manage to open the computer management window.
2. Expand "Computer Management (local)-System Tools-Local Users and group-users" in sequence to find the Guest account. If the Guest account has been disabled, a Red Cross sign is displayed on the icon.
3. Right-click the Guest account and click "properties" to open the guest Properties window. In the "guest properties" dialog box, select "user cannot change password", "Password Never Expires", and "Account Disabled", and click "OK ", you can enable the Guest account.
Note that the check box for "account deactivated" is removed. Although you can enable the Guest account now, the check box for "Password Never Expires" is not removed, after a period of sharing, the password expiration function of the system will suddenly fail to be used by the Guest account. This is a strange phenomenon that some people have reflected that the sharing printing is still used well before the National Day, and cannot be printed after the holiday. In fact, this is just a coincidence that the password expires at the time. Some people think that the Guest account does not use a password? Why does the password expire? In fact, the Guest account has a password, which is "Empty Password ".
If the local guest account is enabled, the user still cannot access the Shared printing provided by the print server. This may be because the Group Policy does not allow the Guest account to access the print server from the network. Check whether the local security policy prevents guest from accessing this computer from the network and whether the Local Security Policy "Empty Password users can only log on to the console" is enabled as follows:
1. Click Start-run. In open, enter gpedit. MSC and click OK to open the Group Policy window.
2. in the Group Policy window, expand "Local Computer Policy-Computer Configuration-Windows Settings> Security Settings-local policy-user permission assignment ", in the right column, find the "Deny access to this computer from the network" option, open it, delete the Guest account, and then open the "access to this computer from the network" option, add a guest account in the Properties window. In this way, you can use the Guest account to access the shared resources of the machine from the network.
3. by default, in XP's Local Security Policy-user permission assignment, "Empty Password users can only log on to the console" is enabled, and any account with a blank password cannot access from the network, you can only log on locally, but the guest password is empty by default. Therefore, you must disable this setting.
Step 5: Check whether a third-party firewall software is installed on the print server and whether the NetBIOS port is blocked.
If the printing server is installed with the network firewall software and improperly configured, the printing service of the printing service cannot be shared by users. Make sure that the NetBIOS port is enabled for the network firewall software.
Step 6: scan and kill viruses
It is rare that virus disruption affects the sharing and printing of network printers. It is reported that a network virus named backdoor. spyboter. Ay. enc can stop sharing resources.
The virus will automatically upload an executable file named wuam.exe in the Windows system installation root directory and in the Windows system installation directory. This file is actually a special Trojan file. After it is executed, all the shared resources of the system will be automatically stopped in the background, in this way, other workstation users will naturally be unable to access the shared resources in the print server, not to mention accessing the network printer. The “wuam.exe Trojan file is automatically started with the system.
Check the printer driver
Printer Drivers sometimes have problems. If the above problems with network communication are fixed, we should consider printing drivers on servers and workstations. We can determine this problem by performing a cross-test on different machines in the LAN and changing the printer to another machine.
Check the printer driver. To determine whether the printer driver is installed properly, delete the printer driver and reinstall the default printer driver, follow these steps:
1. Open "start -- control panel -- printer and fax" in sequence ".
2. Right-click the default printer icon and click "delete ". In the black circle in the upper left corner, the default printer icon has a white check mark.
3. If you are sure you want to delete the printer, click yes ".
4. Double-click "Add Printer" and then click "Next ".
5. Click "connect to local printer on this computer" (Network Printer if it is on a workstation), and then click "Next ".
6. Click "Next" to use the printer port. In the manufacturers list, click the name of the printer manufacturer, and in the printer list, click the printer model name.
7. Click "Next" three times to indicate that you want to print the test page and click "yes.
8. Click "Next" and then click "finish ".
9. If the test page is printed correctly, click OK ".
Test the printer by printing documents from the WordPad. If the print driver cannot be printed from the WordPad after you reinstall it, try to print it using the generic/textonly printer driver. To do this, you only need to click generic in the manufacturer list in step 1 above, and in the printer list, click generic/textonly. If you can print the driver after installation, it indicates that the Driver Installer is faulty. Contact the manufacturer or find the latest driver on the Internet.
Summary:
For an initial network shared printing environment, we may need to go through these steps. However, for the printing and sharing of a company in use, various settings have been finalized, and the probability of failure is relatively small, most of which also appear on the XP computer that undertakes the printing server. The best case is that the print server also provides file sharing, so that we can first test whether it can access its shared files to determine whether the sharing channel of the print server is normal.
If you can browse shared files, the problem occurs on the printer. Maybe the printer name has changed, or the print driver has an error.
If it can be used normally and cannot access shared files, you should consider the issue of starting and stopping the Guest account and whether the printing server has installed the network firewall software, is there virus intrusion. If you finally confirm that there is no problem with the shared network, check the printer driver.
