Shut down, lock your computer, or log out
After using your computer for a period of time, you can log out, lock your computer, set it to sleep mode, or disable it.
Close
In Windows 8 and Windows RT, you do not need to shut down your computer completely. Instead, you only need to place your computer in sleep mode. This only consumes a small amount of power. Your computer can start up faster and you can immediately return to your previous location. You don't need to worry that the battery will run out, because when the battery power is too low, Windows will automatically save all your work before shutting down the computer.
For most laptops and tablets, sleep is the default off mode, so you only need to close the screen or press the power button. However, if you plan not to use your computer for a long period of time, you may need to shut down your computer completely.
The procedure is as follows:
1. Disable any desktop applications that you have opened.
2. Sweep from the right edge of the screen to the center and click "set ".
(If you use the mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the pointer down, and then click "set ".)
3. Click or click "power", and then click or click "power off ".
