To make full use of these valuable hard disk space resources and avoid waste, we must learn to restrict them. The limitations on hard disk space are also skillful. I will introduce the restrictions on hard disk space in two ways: Windows User Account restrictions and folder restrictions.

I. Disk Quota, limit each user

If your Windows system adopts the NTFS file format, you can use the "Disk Quota" function. It can be used for each Windows User Account in the system, restrict the disk space resources of the file server.

In the LAN managed by the author, a file server provides shared resources on the hard disk, and all the shared folders are stored on the server's d disk. The "Disk Quota" function can be used to limit the empty disk capacity of the d disk used by every Windows user who can access shared resources.

Assume that you have several Windows user accounts, such as "YANPI1, YANPI 2, and YANPI 3", and have the read and write permissions on the shared folder of the d disk, to limit the waste of shared folder hard disk space resources on the file server, you can enable the "Disk Quota" function on disk D of the file server, specifies the number of hard disk spaces that can be used by a Windows User Account with read and write permissions.

1. Enable the "Disk Quota" Function

In the resource manager of the file server, right-click the drive D letter, select the "attribute" option from the shortcut menu, and then switch to the "quota" tab. After selecting the "enable quota management" item, the "Disk Quota" function is activated. Then, make sure that the "Deny disk space to users who exceed the quota" item is selected, in addition, I suggest you select "record events when the user exceeds the quota limit" and "record events when the user exceeds the warning level" to record quota alarms to Windows logs, to facilitate network management analysis, click "application ".

2. Restrictions

Select "Limit disk space to", enter "1000" in the blank bar, and enter "950" in the "set warning level to" column ", select "MB" for the disk capacity unit, and click "OK" to complete the disk quota setting for "YANPI1". In this way, the user can only use a MB shared folder hard disk space. The methods for setting quotas for other users are the same. Follow the steps above to configure the quotas.

TIPS:The application of the "Disk Quota" function is based on the hard disk drive letter, and the restrictions on other hard disk drive letters are the same.

Ii. Restrict the folder "capacity"

This section describes how to use the "Disk Quota" function provided by Windows to limit the disk space used by each Windows user. But it also has a lot of deficiencies. This is the hard disk space used by a specific folder, but it is powerless. Although you limit the hard disk space used by each user, multiple users work together on one shared folder, which can also make the size of the shared folder extremely huge, which is also very insecure. Therefore, limiting the amount of hard disk space occupied by each folder can also enhance the security of data files and reduce the number of times data files are damaged by humans or viruses, the "SpaceGuardSRM" disk management tool can solve this problem.

1. Installation

Install and configure the "spaceguardsrm" disk management tool from" http://soft.winzheng.com/softview/softview_23021.htm. The following uses the "yanpi" folder on the d disk in the file server as an example to limit the disk space it occupies.

In the "Browse Network" form on the left side of the "SpaceGuardSRM" Console window, expand "Network Attached Microsoft Windows Network Attached Workgroup" and find the "Network Attached Workgroup" icon. The following describes how to install the "SpaceGuardSRM" service to limit the hard disk space of the "yanpi" folder. 2. Restrictions

Here, when the "yanpi" folder is set to "97%" of the quota capacity, a warning is issued. When "100%" is reached, all users are prohibited from using this folder. Click "Add" to go to the "Configure Limit" configuration restriction dialog box, enter "97" in the "Percentage of Quota size" column, and then click "Add, in the displayed dialog box, select the "Popup" option and click "OK. In the "Quota-Limits" configuration restriction dialog box, click "Add" again, enter "100" in the "Percentage of Quota size" column, and click "Add, select "Revoke Access" and click "OK.

In the "Quota-Save policy" dialog box, enter the name of this Quota policy item, and click "finish. In this way, the disk quota for the "yanpi" folder of the d disk is limited to less than MB. The restrictions on other folders are the same, so I will not repeat them here.
