How to solve the problem of two Chrome icons in Elementary OS Freya

Chrome is the main browser I use in all systems. Modori is the default browser in the dock, so you need to search Google Chrome in Slingshot every time you use Chrome. To save time, I usually keep it in the dock.

The problem here is that when you click the Chrome icon in the dock, it will create another Google Chrome instance. This leaves two Chrome icons in the dock. Delete the second Google Chrome icon in the dock of Elementary OS Freya

Step 1:

Remove Google Chrome from the dock.

Step 2:

Open the terminal and run the following command:

Cp/usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop ~ /. Local/share/applications

Step 3:

Next we will edit the google-chrome.destop file. Run the following command:

Scratch-text-editor ~ /. Local/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop

This opens the google-chrome.destop file with Scratch. In the [Desktop Entry] section, add the following line:

StartupWMClass = Google-chrome-stable

Step 4:

Go to Slingshot and open Google Chrome again. Select "keep in dock" again ". Close and re-open it to verify if it has opened another Chrome icon in the dock. You do not need to restart the system.
