I recently used vmware workstation 8 to install Windows 8. It was very nice to consider migrating fedora14 to VMware (originally in vitualbox). I failed to install fedora14 several times under vmware workstation 8, summarize the following experiences to avoid detours:

My VMWare Version: 8.0.4 build-744019, my fedora 14 version: i386-DVD (Fedora-14-i386-DVD ).
