1 introduction in the afternoon of Saturday, I decided to take a quick look at the books [1] and see what the Bible on Ubuntu is talking about. It feels good to say that when I see the introduction of document Markup Language-tex and Latex, the author recommends the teTeX software packages commonly used on Ubuntu, but I did not find the software in the Software Center (software centre) through the Query (SEARCCH) dialog box. Then go to the author's recommended home page about teTeX (Www.tug.org/tetex) to learn. Discover that teTeX has ceased maintenance since 2006, suggesting an interest in Tex installation and attention texlive. I was amazed, teTeX is so old! This is not to blame, since the author's book was published in the year 2007.
Follow-up, continue to use Google search to install Texlive method, the results found a lot of Ubuntu enthusiasts have long been updated to the new version, and I am still using Ubuntu 12.04. I also decided to upgrade the desktop Ubuntu system. Note that the 12 in Ubuntu 12.04 refers to the 2012 release of the distribution. It seems that the version I'm using is a bit old, and I'm still feeling like I'm using a newer system? Can only blame the time flies, time too fast ah! Ubuntu 12.04 is not feeling well, the new version has come out. Then welcome the new things!
Next, I'll explain how to use the USB drive boot disk method to upgrade Ubuntu 12.04 on the desktop to Ubuntu 14.04.
2 make USB drive boot disk 2.1 Download the Ubuntu 14.04 ISO image file for the image file for Http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu-kylin-zh-CN. The distribution is all called Ubuntu Kylin 14.04.1 Long-term support version, is a specially designed for Chinese users. I specifically check the desktop for a confirmed 64-bit PC, so choose to download the 64-bit ISO file. The name of the downloaded image file is Ubuntukylin-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso, note that amd64 in the file name is not meant to be installed only on AMD 64-bit CPU machines, but also for Intel-branded CPU computers. Don't be fooled by the file name. Put the file in the F:\OS\Ubuntu 14 04 folder of my Win7 system.
2.2 In the Win7 system to make a U disk Ubuntu Startup disk in the Win7 system to make Ubuntu system USB disk Boot disk method, please follow "how to create a bootable USB stick on Windows" (Http://www.ubunt U.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows) is described in.
The preparation of the U disk space at least 1G, because although the download of the ISO image file size of about 1.1G, but the production of USB disk Startup disk, the actual use of the U disk space is only more than 800 trillion. In addition you need to download a universal USB Installer (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/) software, which is EXE file, Download it and use it without having to install it. The production of the USB stick boot Disk 1 is shown.

Originally thought to make a U disk Startup disk is very difficult things, and so really do this thing only to find the process is very simple. Don't be intimidated by yourself when you meet one thing.
3 Update to upgrade Ubuntu 12.043.1 Settings desktop PC booting from USB flash drive This setting is simple, you just enter the computer's BIOS interface, set to boot from the USB stick. But I was having trouble doing it. Because it is a laboratory with the computer, I do not know is to press the shortcut key to enter the BIOS setup interface, to the online search, found that different brands of desktop computers into the BIOS of the shortcut keys, some press ESC, some f8,f9,f11, or F12. No way, I just try one by one. After repeatedly restarting the computer about 10 times, only to find is the F11 button. In particular, you must connect the USB flash drive to your computer when setting up your computer from the USB stick. Figure 2 shows the shortcut keys for different brands of computers entering the BIOS interface, but not comprehensive.

3.2 Upgrading Ubuntu 12.04 the USB drive boot disk made in section 2.2 can be used as a new installation disk or as a system update upgrade disk. Supported by the live CD provided by Ubuntu, the disk can also be used as an experience disk for the Ubuntu system, i.e., without the installation of the system, booting the system with a USB stick to experience the system. The upgrade process is as follows, from the USB stick boot will appear installer boot menu, under the menu will give a few options, please select Install Ubuntu Kylin, and during the installation process, the installer will find that there is already a system on the hard disk Ubuntu 12.04, at the same time will give a few RadioButton, please select the update to Ubuntu 14.04 This option, the next step is to set the time, user name, user password and other work until the upgrade is complete. Since this version is designed for Chinese users, the installation process will appear Kingsoft Kuaipan Client (Jinshan Express), Sugou Input method, WPS software, such as the introduction of information.
Of course, if the original system you are ready to backup work, then completely new installation. After the upgrade is complete, 3.

4 Summary Tip: If there are any errors during the upgrade process, a fresh installation is possible. Why upgrade your system this way? Because I let Ubuntu 12.04 online update always error, the hint is a network error, and upgrade can only jump one level at a time, but not the level of upgrade.
