2. Prepare your computer
The following operations must be performed before installation starts:
1. Back up your files
2. Power in your laptop or tablet

3. Get free updates
1. Go to the "start" screen and click or click the "app store" tile.
2. In the App Store, click or click Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 update.

4. When you use your computer for other tasks, the updates will be downloaded and installed in the background.
4. Restart
After you have downloaded the update and completed the first phase of installation (it takes 15 minutes to several hours, depending on your system and connection speed), you will see a message to tell you, you need to restart your computer. You will be given 15 minutes to complete ongoing tasks. Save your work and close the application, and then restart your computer. Or you can restart the instance on your own.
If you leave your computer before the restart is ready, be sure to save your work and close any desktop applications in use to ensure that no content is lost when the computer is automatically restarted. Depending on your computer settings and whether other updates are required, you may need to restart your computer multiple times.
When an application is updated, restart takes a longer time than usual-from 20 minutes to 1 hour. At this time, you cannot use the computer.
5. Select your settings
License Terms
After the computer is restarted, you will see the Microsoft software license terms. View the terms and then click or click "I accept" to continue. If you do not accept these terms, the installation of Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 will be canceled, and the computer will be rolled back to Windows 8 or Windows RT.
Quick Settings
You will see a list of recommended settings (called "Quick Settings. To accept these settings and continue, click or click "use quick settings ". After completing the settings, you can change any of these settings later. If you want to change some of these settings immediately, click or click "custom"
VI. Logon1. If you have logged on with a Microsoft account before
Enter your Microsoft account email address (if needed) and password.

VIII. Final Update
Since Windows will always be updated, it is possible that key updates will become available after Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 are completed.
