With the development of wireless networks, wireless routers have been widely used in public homes. Here we mainly explain how wireless routers are used as wireless APs. If the existing networks are already Internet-shared networks, you do not want to change the operation of the existing network. The wireless router can be used as a Wireless AP. This article uses WGR614v5 as an example to describe this application.
Comparison
In a sense, a Wireless AP is equivalent to a wireless Hub. The main difference between a Wireless AP and a Hub is that the media connected to the workstation is not a network cable, but a wireless electromagnetic wave working in a specific frequency range using air as the media, the workstation must be equipped with a Wireless AP client, that is, a wireless network card.
Connection
No matter which application environment, once it is used as a Wireless AP, the Internet port or WAN port of the wireless router will no longer be used. You only need to connect one of the four LAN ports of the wireless router to a vswitch or a wireless router. For example, for the following applications, you only need to connect a LAN port of WGR614v5 to a LAN port of the Router: APWGR614v5) <--> Router <--> adsl modem <--> Internet.
In addition to the differences in connection, you also need to modify the settings of the wireless router. In the preceding example, the lan ip address of the Router is 192.168.2.1 and the mask is 255.255.255.0. the DHCP server function is enabled-this is a typical setting of a wireless Router in small and medium enterprises, you have to change some settings on WGR614v5.
Set
Log on to the vro Management page. For details about how to enter the vro Management page, see "Configure vro for the first time, how to quickly set up by bypassing the setting wizard"). The default page is basic settings, click lan ip settings in the left-side function list to go to the LAN Settings page:
DHCP server is enabled by default in the factory settings of WGR614v5. However, a wireless router has enabled this function in the network connected to WGR614v5. If WGR614v5 is still enabled as a Wireless AP, changing the features of the existing network may cause unnecessary problems if improperly configured. Therefore, disable the DHCP server function of WGR614v5 and remove the check box before using the wireless router as the DHCP server. The lan ip address of the Router connected by WGR614v5 is 192.168.2.1, the mask is 255.255.255.0, And the DHCP Server function is enabled. For future management convenience, you can set the lan ip address of WGR614v5 To This CIDR block, that is, 192.168.2. × (× can be 2 ~ The value between 254 and 111, as long as it does not conflict with the IP address of other devices in the LAN, the figure is set to), and then click "application". After the configuration is updated, WGR614v5 will work as a Wireless AP:
If you set WGR614v5 for the first time, you must enable the wireless function. Because WGR614v5 does not enable the wireless function by default, you only need to click "application" on this page on the Basic settings page, as shown in:
