The SmartArt Text pane in a Word2013 document is used to edit SmartArt graphic text, not only to add or remove SmartArt graphic shapes, but also to upgrade or demote shapes. In Word2013, users can open the Text pane by clicking the Text Pane button in the Create graphic group in the SmartArt Tools/design ribbon, and you can click the arrow to the left of the SmartArt graphic to open the Text pane, as shown in Figure 2013080933.

In the SmartArt graphic Text pane, users can do the following:
Add Shape: Click the end position of a shape and press ENTER to add a sibling shape, and the user can enter the graphic text as needed;
Delete a shape: Select the graphic text that corresponds to a shape and press the DELETE key to delete the shape;
Format text: Select the graphic text that corresponds to a shape, and you can format text in the Font toolbar or in the Start ribbon;
To upgrade or demote a shape: Click anywhere in a shape, and click the Upgrade or Demote button in the SmartArt Tools/Design Ribbon create graphic group, as shown in Figure 2013080934.
