When talking about Internet sharing, many people will think of WinGate. The biggest advantage of this software is that it caches webpage content to speed up browsing. However, many users find it difficult to configure WinGate. It is really hard to use QQ, Foxmail, network ant, Internet Express, CuteFTP and other software! In addition, it is very troublesome for the client to configure the server. How can we use the WinGate cache to speed up browsing without complicated configuration? In the process of building the campus network of enping TV University, we found a good way: Sharing WinGate and Windows built-in connections. The procedure is as follows:
1. Install "Internet Connection Sharing"
Before installation, make sure that your LAN is connected and prepare a floppy disk. The Installation Process of "Internet Connection Sharing" in Windows is relatively simple. Follow the prompts. If "Internet Connection Sharing" is not available in the system, you can add it through "Add/delete programs → Windows Components → Internet tools.
2. Install WinGate
Software Installation is relatively simple. Just press Enter. I will not discuss it here. Windows 2000 or Windows 98 can be used on servers. Note that the corresponding version of WinGate must be installed on different operating systems.
3. WinGate Configuration
On the WinGate usage page, set the cache attribute of WinGate. Set the cache size to no less than MB.
4. configuration of IE browser
Run IE browser, open the Internet option, set LAN, and set 2. Here, the IP address of our server is 192.168.0.1, port is 80, and press Enter.
After the configuration is complete, we can run the connection sharing between WinGate and Windows to complete the proxy server function. Put the two in the startup directory, and the server can run and use them. Now we can use QQ, Foxmail, CuteFTP, network ant, and other software on the Internet. In this case, the server uses WinGate to provide web page browsing services for the client, and provides QQ, email, upload, download, and other services for the client through the connection sharing provided by Windows. Therefore, we can not only enjoy surfing the Internet, but also avoid unnecessary settings.
Note that if your server also serves as a Web server, FTP server, or email server on the LAN in the organization, such as IIS 2000 on Windows 5.0, after installing WinGate, you will find that FTP and LAN email on the LAN are not available. Don't worry. You can use it after completing the following configuration.
1. Run WinGate on the Server to delete all user servers except the WWW Proxy Server in WinGate.
2. Change the WWW Proxy Server port in WinGate to 8080.
3. Finally, change the port number of the client to 8080 by referring to the LAN setting method in Internet Options of IE browser.
The above settings allow you to use various LAN Service Functions of your organization. Friend, how are you doing? If you want to try it, please hurry up!
