Ubuntu and nvidia graphics cards-general Linux technology-Linux technology and application information. For more information, see the following. A 19-inch wide screen LCD was defeated in the village yesterday.

Connect to the machine athlon. The video card is the legendary nvdia geforce4 mx440.

When windows is started, no 1440*900 resolution is found. So I got the latest driver on the nvidia homepage and installed it and restarted it. 1440*900 appeared. I played a video using storm audio and video. OK is OK.

Start ubuntu 7.10. There is no 1440*900. Because ubuntu supports and configures hardware in a friendly way, I have never tried hardware configuration on my own. With preference> screen resolution, only the listed resolutions can be selected.

But where can I select the video card type and the driver used? After a while, we found that there was System Management-> Screens and Resolution preferences. I skipped several times because I used English. You can set the screen type and the driver used by the video card.

I call up the resolution of 1440*900. Log on again. Looks good. However, when playing a video with gnome-mplayer, the title bar of gnome-mplayer is missing. This is also true when you enable the movie player (totem. When you open gnome-terminal, there is no title bar or window content.

The resolution is 1024*768 again, and the problem persists. Try to enable the nvidia driver in the restricted driver without solving the problem. I really don't know where the problem is.

The nvidia driver is deleted.

Sudo apt-get remove nvidia-glx

Install the old nvidia driver

Sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-legacy

Choose System Management> Screens and Resolution preferences and choose nvidia. If you do not know how to do this, it always restores to "nv" or "vesa ". Check/etc/X11/xorg. conf. The driver is always "nv ". So we had to change the driver in xorg. conf to "nvdia" after the backup ". Restart the system.

After selecting the 1440*900 resolution, and then trying gnome-mplayer, it is normal, and other software displays it normally.

I am reluctant to toss hardware drivers, so I prefer ubuntu, which supports "dumb-level" hardware. I don't want it to be supported on the nvidia card (including the configuration of the video card.
