Are you ready to publish your work?

First step: Personal WEB Server (PWS)

• If you want other people to access your pages, you must publish them.
• To publish your work, you need to copy your files to the WEB server.
• Your own PC can also be used as a WEB server, but only if it has to be connected to the Internet.
• If you are using Windows 98, you can use PWS (Personal Web Server).
• You can find PWS in the PWS folder of the Windows installation CD.

Personal Web Server (PWS)

PWS can transform any Windows computer into a WEB server. PWS is easy to install and is the ideal platform for developing and testing WEB applications. PWS is optimized for workstations, but still has all the prerequisites for a complete WEB server.

How to install Personal Web Server (PWS):

• Browse your Windows installer and see if PWS has been installed.
• If not, install PWS from the PWS directory of the Windows installation CD.
• Follow the installation prompts to install and then start running your PWS.

Tip: Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition does not provide support for PWS.

Internet Information Server (IIS)

Windows 2000 built-in WEB server IIS makes it easy to create large applications for your network. Both PWS and IIS contain ASP, a server-side scripting standard for creating dynamic and interactive WEB applications. IIS can also be applied to the Windows NT platform.
