This is because my friend wrote an article about why we want to use CentOS on the server. For details, see http://www.linuxidc.com/linux/2012-05/60590.htm. Write this, in fact, because a friend wrote an article why on the server we want to use CentOS see http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2012-05/60590.htm
In fact, it is very real. I will also talk about the advantages of Ubuntu and the reasons for choosing Ubuntu.
1: multiple packages are provided.
By default, Ubuntu provides many more packages than CentOS. Not a quantity level. So you don't need to find anything to install. Ready for use. Very convenient.
If it is CentOS, you often need to use a third-party source or compile and install it, which is time-consuming.
The iRedmail project is obvious. In Versions later than Ubuntu 10.04, all packages are from the release version. Of course, the admin dashboard is left out.
2: New Software
Compared with CentOS, software version updates are relatively timely. RedHat is too conservative. However, this is also related to the workload.
3: Default Optimization
The default settings of many software have been optimized, which is much better than CentOS.
4: Business Support
If you have used Redhat subscription, you should know the Redhat rules.
Ubuntu is relatively flexible. You only need to purchase the machine you want to purchase the service. You do not need to purchase all of them.
5: cloud leader
For Openstack, Ubuntu is the best choice. Currently, the internal environment of HPcloud and Rackspace is Ubuntu. More importantly, swift is currently running in the production environment and supports 10.04 Pb of storage, that is, Ubuntu.
6. Hardware Support
I have to admit that it was previously a disadvantage of Ubuntu. However, for Ubuntu 12.04, the long-term support version is basically all done on our servers. No problems have been found.
Currently, all the latest Dell servers support Ubuntu for openstack.
7. Batch Installation
Kistart of CentOS has advantages. However, orchestra of Ubuntu should be able to solve this problem well.
