The registry is an advanced tool for managing and maintaining your operating system, and you can view and change its settings by using Registry Editor. The reasonable management and maintenance of registry data can not only make the computer normal work, but also can improve the performance of the computer, but if the improper modification, resulting in registry errors, it may cause a panic, but self-defeating.
  
Here, we introduce the basic operation of modifying registry data.
  
  
  
   To create items and key-value entries:

    • Run Registry Editor.
        
        
    • Select the location where you want to add the item, that is, under a root key or subkey, such as Hkey_current_user\appevents, select the subkey, click Edit]| on the menu bar [New]| [item], or right-click the subkey, select New]| [item], as shown in the figure.


        
        
    • At this point, you can enter the name of the item directly, such as new. Select the item and click the New]| on the menu bar. [String value], or right-click directly in the right half of the window to select [New]| [String value] to create a new key value entry for a string value for the new subkey.
       

        
    • At this point, you can enter the name of the key value entry, such as value.

When you return, double-click the key value entry to enter its key value. Here, because it is a string-type key-value entry, you can enter any string, such as none.

  Delete items and key-value entries:
  
Select the key value entry, subkey, or primary key for the delete, right-click to select Delete, and click OK. For items under which you have subkeys, you also need to confirm that you want to delete them along with the subkeys, as you need to determine.
  
  
  
  To find an item, value, or data:
  
Because there are so many contents and subkeys in the registry, it's a bit of an imposition to remember where each key corresponds. So you can rest assured that if you forget an item (subkey), a value (a key value item), or data (a key value item value), you can search and locate the appropriate part of the registry with the help of the lookup function in the registry.
  
Click on the menu bar [edit]| Lookup command, the following dialog box pops up.




Where you can choose what you want to match. The bottom full word match is selected to find only the exact part of the find target, and all parts that contain the Find target content are displayed when unselected.


When a value that is supported by the target is found, it is positioned on the target. At this point, press F3 to find the next target. If you have already checked all the registry contents, the "Registry Search Complete" dialog box will pop up.




   To edit a value entry data:
  
Item value data can be modified in the registry. Item value data for each type has its own different data editors. There are five types of data in the registry: binary values (shown as REG_BINARY in types), String values (REG_SZ), DWORD values (REG_DWORD), multiple string values (REG_MULTI_SZ), and expandable string values (REG_EXPAND_SZ).

    • Binary value: In the registry, most hardware component information is stored in binary data and is displayed in the Registry Editor in hexadecimal format. To modify a binary value, select the value, click the menu bar [edit]| [Modify binary data], or double-click the value directly to modify it in the pop-up dialog box.


    • String value: The registry key that contains the string uses the string data type, edited on the menu bar, edit]| [Modify], or double-click directly, and then enter the desired string directly. The letters are written in the same case and are free to change in length.

    • DWORD (double-byte) value: Used to represent a 32-bit numeric value that can be entered in decimal, hexadecimal, or binary mode, which allows only valid digits to be entered.

    • Multi-string value: The data type can store multiple strings in a subkey. In general, a string resource in the registry allows only one row of data to be included, and this multiple string type allows a string resource in the registry to contain multiple strings. As shown in the figure, you are editing multiple string values.


    • extensible Word String value: Represents the type of strings that can be expanded. Some key values use environment variables, similar to batch files. For example, if a string includes%systemroot%system32, then the length of the%systemroot% is allocated by the system itself, so the string is longer and its extension is passed to the key value,%systemroot% is a standard environment variable, Contains the installation path, drive, and directory for Windows XP. The data is modified in the same way as modifying a string value entry.
