LAM requires the purchase of IBM PowerVM™Workload Partitions Manager for AIX or AIX V7 Enterprise Edition this version includes IBM PowerVM Workload Partitions Manager for AIX ).

Allows you to export fiber channel adapters to WPAR.

AIX V7.1 supports exporting virtual fiber channel adapters to WPAR. The adapter is exported to the WPAR in the same way as the storage device. When a WPAR is started, it discovers and configures all sub-devices in the WPAR, which has several advantages. You can directly supply the SAN device to the wpar n-port. You do not need to supply it to the global partition before exporting it to the WPAR. You can manage multiple paths within a WPAR. In this configuration, the optical fiber channel tape system using the atape driver is also supported in the WPAR.

Support for VIOS disks in WPAR

This AIX version also supports using vSCSI disks in WPAR in the same way as fiber channel disks. The vio scsi disk configured in the global partition can be exported to the WPAR as the data disk or rootvg of the wpar. You can export any types of disks supported by Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) to WPAR. In addition, as long as both the source and target logical partitions (LPAR) are VIOS client instances that can access these disks, You can execute LAM on the rootvg wpar on the vSCSI disk.

Reliably load and configure kernel extensions from the WPAR

AIX V7.1 provides the global administrator with the ability to export specific kernel extensions so that the WPAR administrator can load and configure kernel extensions in the WPAR. During export, the specified extension signature is calculated to ensure that only exported extensions can be loaded. You can specify whether the exported extension is loaded in a local WPAR namespace or global load, so that global partitions and other WPAR can be accessed. With this function, some application combinations that originally need to load kernel extensions in the WPAR environment will no longer have this requirement. For AIX V7.1, you cannot execute LAM for the WPAR with the exported kernel extension.

Enhanced AIX performance tool topas for Active Memory Expansion

Active Memory Expansion is a new POWER7 feature that expands the Memory capacity of the POWER7 server by compressing data in the Memory. When Active Memory Expansion is used, AIX V7.1 provides additional performance monitoring functions. The AIX topas performance monitoring tool has been enhanced. When using the CEC view, it can report the Active Memory Expansion metrics of all LPAR on the server. The libperfstat Library has also been enhanced to report the Active Memory Expansion indicator.
