IBM Lotus Symphony 1.1 released

In addition to the traditional OpenOffice, WPS made in China, Google Apps launched by Google, and StarOffice jointly launched by Sun and Google pack, IBM has not become a bystander in this field recently, released its own free office software IBM Lotus Symphony. Symphony includes three tools: Text Processing, workbooks, and demo slides. Based on the open document format (ODF), it can be saved as a Ms offie document or output as a PDF file. These three tools are included in the IBM Lotus 8 suite.

Lotus Symphony is not a new name. As early as 1990, the desktop spreadsheet software in Lotus used this name. IBM has adopted the "open" mode to connect with the closed and exclusive mode of Microsoft Office.

This software adopts the Eclipse open-source framework and supports OpenDocument format (ODF). The file format standard is derived from OpenOffice open-source office software.

Ibm faq notes indicate that these software are compatible with Microsoft Office documents and can be output in Adobe PDF format. You can create templates using existing office files. However, macro commands or some advanced functions cannot be fully converted.

It is worth noting that Lotus Symphony can run in Windows and Linux systems, and will plan to support Apple's Mac OS systems in the future.
