Earlier this year, IBM released a PHP development tool called mongozend Core for IBM, which includes a free DB2 license. Teo said that the database engine used by Cloudscape is different from that used by DB2, but enterprises can easily port applications to DB2.

However, Teo pointed out that the cost of purchasing database products is lower than the cost of maintaining database products, which may be the labor cost of database management or the support cost of the vendor. In any IT project, the software cost accounts for about 10% of the overall deployment cost, and most organizations usually ignore the maintenance cost.

Teo said that although manufacturers can easily streamline database products and quickly develop Express products, they should also include functions that meet the requirements of the target customer base, for example, small and medium-sized enterprises with limited IT human resources.

He said that Express products should be configured with simple user interfaces and management tools and should be easy to use. these should be taken into account when developing Express products.

Last year, Oracle took the lead in the relational database market with a market share of 34.1%, followed by IBM and Microsoft with a market share of 33.7% and 20% respectively.
