About DD-WRT
Each router device we use usually has its own operating system OS, which is used to set and manage various functions of routing devices. In fact, what we usually call upgrading the router firmware is to update and refresh the operating system of the router device to make the router device more powerful.
DD-WRT is a Linux operating system, but it is essentially a third-party router firmware. Its Routing and network management functions are very powerful and widely used in Linksys WRT54G/GS/GL, or other 802.11g wireless routers based on the Broadcom reference design. You can refresh the DD-WRT to the supported router devices to make the router more powerful. Similarly, we can also let the DD-WRT run independently on a computer, as long as the corresponding hardware, you can let the computer to achieve the functions of the router!
Hardware preparation
As long as a small USB flash drive is idle, It is enough. Of course, this USB flash drive cannot be used as a router separately. However, it can be used as an ultra-small server with different computers. At the same time, it is also necessary to append a NIC or a hub to the entire machine.

Install DD-WRT x86
Now, for the U disk "brush" routing firmware DD-WRT. In general, you must have a hardware device to fl firmware. here you need to fl the firmware to the router. But here we will directly refresh the firmware to the USB flash disk. DD-WRT capacity is only around 11 Mb, the old U disk mostly has 16 MB to MB space, absolutely enough, here we brush the firmware on a 64 mb u disk as an example:
DD-WRT x86 "dd-wrt-public-vga.image (hard drive/memory card Mount mirror file)" and "physdiskwrite 0.5.1 (router IMG write disk tool)" and decompress them to the same folder, open the CMD Command Prompt window and enter the folder where the program is located. The program prompts "which disk do you want to write ?", That is, enter the serial number of the target USB flash drive. Do not select the wrong one. Otherwise, all data in the USB flash drive will be overwritten. Enter the serial number of the USB flash drive and press Enter. The screen prompts you to check whether it is correct or not. Of course, select Y. A few seconds later, the router firmware will be written to the USB flash drive of the old machine, the "11534336/11534336 bytes written in total" prompt indicates that the write is successful.

Tip: The parameter "-U" in the mongophysdiskwrite.exe-u dd-wrt_public.vga.image command, mainly used when the target hard disk or U disk is greater than 800 mb, if the old disk is relatively small, less than MB, you can also remove this parameter when using a CF card.

Set vro

The U disk to the computer, and two network cards are inserted into the network cable, boot start, with just brush into the DD-WRT U disk boot system. After the boot, you can see that the DD-WRT just flushed over the system boot, boot into the Linux system. After the system boot, The DD-WRT automatically detects the network environment and hard disk devices, and automatically sets the network to start providing routing services.

Open the browser on your computer and enter the default IP Address "http: // 192.168.1.1" in the address bar of the browser. Enter the user name and password. The Default User Name for logging on to the vro is "root" and the password is "admin ". After logon, the default interface is the English interface. You can change it to Chinese. Click "Administrator" at the top of the page to enter the page. Then, set "registrageselection" to "chinesesimplified.

Now, you need to set up the ADSL Router to access the Internet. The common network access method may be ADSL dialing, fixed IP address, or dynamic IP address. Here we take the ADSL dialing setting as an example. Other methods can be used for reference. Click "Settings/Basic settings" at the top of the page, select "ppoe" in "Internet connection type", and enter the account and password of the ADSL dial-up Internet access. In the "Network Settings/router IP" at the bottom, set the address of the local DNS domain name resolution server, and save the settings to provide the route surfing function. You can enable DHCP in "network address server settings (DHCP)" below.
In addition, many ADSL modem also support web management. The default value of their IP addresses is often 192.168.1.1, which may conflict with the LP address of the router, the router cannot be installed and used. Therefore, we must change the lan ip address of the router. In the "Network Settings/router IP" section, change "local IP Address" to another IP address, for example, "192.168.1.254 ". After the configuration takes effect, the lan ip address of the vro changes to "192.168.1.254". If you set a vro later, you need to access the vro through an IP address connection.
Route access

On other computers, you can set the gateway as the IP address of the host router, set DNS, or use DHCP to access the Internet freely. The USB flash drive router is very powerful. You can use QoS, speed limit, and connection limit settings to optimize the bandwidth, it also supports vpn pptp client and PPTP server settings, provides VPN access, and allows easy management of various network applications through configuration, such as complete blocking of Bt, donkey, and thunder.
