ActiveX controls are small apps that Web sites can use to provide content such as video and games. When browsing the Web, you can also use these small apps to interact with content such as toolbars and stock quotes . However, these apps can sometimes have problems or provide you with unwanted content. In some cases, these apps can be used to collect information from your computer, destroy information on your computer, install software on your computer without your consent, or allow others to remotely control your computer.

ActiveX filtering

　　ActiveX filtering in Internet Explorer prevents websites from installing and using these apps. This feature allows you to be more secure while browsing, but it can also affect the performance of certain websites. For example, if you turn on ActiveX filtering, videos, games, and other interactive content may not work.

To enable ActiveX filtering for all sites

Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon in the taskbar.

Tap or click the Tools button, point to security in the drop-down menu, and then tap or click ActiveX Filtering. A check mark should now appear next to ActiveX filtering.

To turn off ActiveX filtering for individual websites

Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon in the taskbar.

Go to the Web site where you want to allow ActiveX controls to run.

Tap or click the Filter button in the address bar , and then tap or click Turn off ActiveX filtering. If the filter button does not appear in the Address bar, no ActiveX content is filtered on the site.

To turn off ActiveX filtering for all sites

Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon in the taskbar.

Tap or click the Tools button, point to security in the drop-down menu, and then tap or click ActiveX Filtering. The check mark next to "ActiveX filter" will no longer appear.

To adjust ActiveX settings in Internet Explorer

For security reasons, Internet Explorer may not be set up to be able to download or run ActiveX controls. You can download, install, or run ActiveX controls after you change some of the advanced security settings, but your computer may be more vulnerable to security threats. Please change advanced ActiveX settings only when you are sure that you have no problem with increasing your computer risk level.

Steps to change ActiveX settings

Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon in the taskbar.

Tap or click the Tools button, and then tap or click Internet Options.

On the Security tab, tap or click Custom Level, and then under ActiveX controls and plug-ins, do one of the following:

Tap or click Enable to allow ActiveX controls to prompt automatically.

Tap or click Enable to allow Internet Explorer to display video and animations on pages that do not use external media players .

Tap or click Enable to allow Internet Explorer to download signed ActiveX controls. If you want to receive a reminder every time you download an ActiveX control, click Prompt.

Tap or click Enable to allow Internet Explorer to "Run ActiveX controls and plugins." If you want to receive a reminder every time you run an ActiveX control and plug-in, click Prompt.

Tap or click Enable to allow Internet Explorer to script ActiveX controls that are marked as safe for scripting. If you want to receive a reminder every time you execute a script, click Prompt.

Tap or click OK, and then tap or click OK again.

Attention

If you cannot change your ActiveX settings, you may be checking with your system administrator because you do not have the appropriate permissions.
