Indexing Service Working principle
Indexing Service stores all of its index information in a catalog. The catalog contains the index information and the storage properties of the file system directory. When Windows 2000 installs the Indexing Service, the system catalog and the Web catalog are automatically constructed, which lists the contents of all permanently connected disk drives, while the latter contains IIS-related directory content.
The implementation of Indexing Service includes the indexing process and the query process.
Indexing process
The indexing process is to preprocess the index file and form a catalog file to make the query work smoothly. The indexing process typically occurs when Indexing Service is initialized. We can liken this process to the cataloguing work of the library: found in thousands of books in the stacks
