Method 1: How to use NAT to share IP. Use this method to surf the internet in Ubuntu without setting anything.
Mode 2: Use bridge mode. This is to configure a static IP for Ubuntu.
The following are the IP addresses that appear, subnet masks, gateways, and DNS that need to be based on your local area network settings.
1, under Windows Settings. When VMware is installed, the network connection will default to two more NICs, as shown below.
In the local connection, select VMware Bridge Protocol. VMnet0 is used by default. Double-click to set.
2. Set VMnet0 as physical network card
3. Uncheck Automatic bridging
4. Empty DHCP

My Windows XP IP address is:
ip:192.168.1.55
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
There are two ways to set up IP in Ubuntu, and it's easier to fill in the window directly,
5.1 Ubuntu set IP in Windows

Select the Wired (tab)--auto eth0, and click Edit. You can see the "Editing Auto eth0" window.
Select the IPV4 Settings tab. Method Select Manual, then click the Add button, you can enter the address of the IP address, subnet mask and gateway.
The DNS server enters the same DNS server as the XP.
Finally click on the app and it's OK.
5.2 Ubuntu using terminal settings IP
1. Use Su root to get administrative privileges, otherwise you will be prompted for insufficient permissions when setting up the network card.
After Ubuntu installation, the root user is locked by default, does not allow login, and does not allow "su" to root. So, if it's the first time
With the SU command, you need to set the SU password first, as shown below.
2, check the network card configuration: Ifconfig, similar to the window under the ipconfig.
Ifconfig eth0: View eth0 NIC Configuration
3, set the IP address of the ETH0 network card, subnet mask and gateway.
Here we use VI Editor, VI Editor use, see related documents, here no longer repeat.
4. Set eth0 DNS Server
5, make the configuration to take effect, using the command:/etc/init.d/networking restart.
Be aware that you should get administrative permissions first, or reconfigure the NIC to fail as follows:
6, the configuration is complete here, you can use Ubuntu installed Firefox web browser surfing the Internet.
