Prerequisite conditions

Preparatory work

1, a Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 installation CD.

2, download the latest version of MSN Messenger Service (HTTP://MESSENGER.MSN.COM/LCCN).

Installation and setup process

I. Add chat services and instant messaging services

1. Put the Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 installation CD into the Server CD drive and click Exchange Server Setup.

2, when the Microsoft Exchange Installation Wizard appears, click Next. Select "Change" in the Action column to select Chat services and instant messaging services as "Install", and clicking the Next Setup Wizard automatically completes the installation task.

Second, configure Instant Messaging

1, click Start, point to Program →microsoft Exchange, click System Manager, double-click Servers, double-click your computer name, double-click Protocols, right-click Instant Messaging (RVP), select New, click Instant Messaging Virtual Server, and enter the profile name in the display name bar.

2, click Next to select the Web site in Choose IIS Web sites. Click Next to enter the DNS name (for example, home.net) in the DNS Domain name bar, which is the part of the user's logon e-mail address after the @ symbol. Click Next to tick the Allow this server to host accounts so that the configuration file takes effect immediately and recommends that you restart the server after the configuration is complete.

Third, configure user accounts

1. Click Active Directory Users and Computers in Administrative tools, click Users, select one user (for example, Administrator), double-click the account, and on the Exchange Features tab, select Instant messaging ".

Iv. Installing and configuring MSN Messenger Service

1. Place the Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 installation CD into the client optical drive; On the client, click start → run, and type X:instmsgi386clientchsmmssetup. EXE (x represents the letter of your CD drive), start installing the MSN Messenger Service 2.2 for Exchange.

2. After the MSN Messenger Service 2.2 for Exchange installation is complete, install the MSN Messenger Service 3.x that you downloaded from the Internet.

3, after installation in the MSN Messenger Service 3.x main window, click Tools, select Options, on the Account tab, in the "Log on with this account" option, select "Exchange account" in Exchange account "logon name" box, enter the login name administrator@home.net.

4. Click OK and select "Click here to log in" to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server Instant messaging Service.

Note: You must first install the MSN Messenger Service 2.2 for Exchange and then upgrade to the MSN Messenger Service 3.x to be able to log on to Microsoft Exchange Server Insta NT Messaging Service option, otherwise the MSN Messenger Service 3.x will not be logged into the Microsoft Exchange Server Instant messaging service option.
