Point thinning is a part of the overall drawing. That is, when point data points are particularly intensive, You need to select important points instead of duplicate points to make the drawing clean and tidy.
I. Basic Principles
Set all vertices to transparent. In this way, no point is displayed. Then set the annotation for these points. The annotation method is very strange. with the standard method of "with Lead lead", this lead should contain an arrow, and this arrow can be edited into the style of the desired point symbol, then, set the line color of the lead to transparent, so that a lead will become a point and a blank area. A lead is usually pulled from a point. Therefore, a lead with a left arrow should be set to direct the lead to a point in another direction. You can set the threshold value of the lead. A feature of the lead label is that there is space for the lead, and the note can be noted. If the threshold value is smaller than this threshold value, it is not marked. At this time, the offset of the annotation is slightly greater than the lead threshold. This is where there is a space annotation, and there is a point (actually the arrow symbol of the lead) and the text of the annotation. If there is no space, it is transparent even if it is set. Therefore, the entire drawing becomes the lead arrow symbol + text. This achieves the effect similar to the distrip.
Ii. Procedure
Take a hospital in a certain area in Beijing as an example to perform automatic thinning. Shows the original display:
Use the maplex annotation engine to perform the following operations if maplex is available:
1. Select the vertex layer to be displayed in label manager. Click the symbol in the text symbol section and select bullet leader in the symbol selector;
2. Click properties to go to the editor, select the advanced text tab, and click Properties of text background;
3. Go to the text background Attribute Editor, select the leader in Line Callout, and click symbol.
4. Click properties in the symbol selector dialog box and select marker line symbol in the symbol property editor.
5. On the cartographic line tab, set color to colorless, offset a position on the template tab, select the second item in line decorations on the Line Properties tab, and click porperties;
6. After step-by-step OK, set the lead tolerance on the panel in step 1. (For example, when the offset element point exceeds 8, the label of the lead is displayed)
7. Enter the value of leader tolerance + 1 in offset in the placement properties of label manager. (More than 8, display the lead label)
For better display, you can also flexibly set the placement of the point. For example, all the priority symbols are displayed at the top, followed by at the bottom, and the labels are only displayed at the right of the symbol.
After a few clicks, the final display effect is as follows:
Iii. Summary
Using symbols as a part of the annotation and making full use of the pumping function provided by maplex can effectively solve the map display problem of a large number of intensive points, which has practical application value. In addition, if you do not need to display labels or symbols at work, you only need to replace Line Callout in step 3 with marker text background and then set it accordingly.
