Improve efficiency: Shield unnecessary functions in WinXP

Source: Internet
Author: User

Although Windows XP is much more functional and easy-to-use than in the past, more features mean that more system resources are needed. In fact, some built-in functions of Windows XP are not better than those of third-party software. In order to make the system more fresh, I have collected some methods to remove the built-in functions of Windows XP and share them with you.

I. Is it possible to raise funds? BR>
Since Windows Me, Microsoft has built-in support for ZIP files in the system. Users can view ZIP files as folders.

WinRAR is now the most popular compression software. You must have installed this software on your system. To disable the Zip file function, you only need to cancel the registration of zipfldr. dll. Click Start> Run. In the run input box, enter regsvr32/u zipfldr. dll (excluding quotation marks, the same below), and press Enter.

Similarly, if you do not like the system to view the CAB package, enter "regsvr32/u cabview. dll" to cancel the registration of cabview. dll.

2. Cancel video preview and burning

When you use the resource manager to select a video file, XP will preview and display it on the left-side panel. However, for large video files, it usually takes half a day to read.

In most cases, you do not need to preview the video. You can simply disable it by entering "regsvr32/u schmedia. dll" in the running input box.

Windows Media Player has added the burning function since 8.0, not to mention its bugs. It alone cannot be compared with professional software such as Nero. Disable this function to modify the Registry. In the Registry Editor, expand the primary key [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion] and create a "NoCDBurning" dubyte value (DWORD) On the right panel ), change the value to "1.

3. Cancel the memory function of the Registry Editor

Windows XP inherits the memory capability of the Registry Editor in Windows Me, but this function has an effect, causing inconvenience to users. to cancel the function, two steps are required:

1. Run the Registry Editor, locate the primary key [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAppletsRegedit], and delete the "LastKey" key value on the right panel;

2. right-click the Regedit branch on the left panel and select the "permission" command from the shortcut menu, in the "Administrative Permissions" window, set "full control" and "read" to "deny.

4. Cancel the pre-check task

Every time the system is connected to another computer, it will check all the scheduled tasks on the other computer. It takes 30 seconds to wait. We do not want to spend time on this. Expand the primary key in the registry editor.
[Hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionpolicerremotecomputernamespace], delete its subkeys -- Windows will no longer check the scheduled task.

5. Disable auto-Installation of IE Components

Because the system uses the IE component for automatic installation, sometimes when you access some webpages using the Internet Explorer browser, a dialog box is displayed to download and install the IE component program. I do not like this feature very much. If you feel this way, you can undo it through the Group Policy following the steps below:

1. Enter "gpedit. msc" in the "run" dialog box to activate the "Group Policy" Management window.

2. expand "Computer Configuration> management template> Windows Components> Internet Explorer" in the console tree on the left, and then double-click "Disable Automatic Installation of Internet Explorer Components" on the right panel, open the "Disable Automatic Installation properties of Internet Explorer Components" dialog box.

3. On the "Settings" tab, set "Disable Automatic Installation of Internet Explorer Components" to "enabled" and click "OK" to make the settings take effect.

When you use IE in the future, the system will not automatically install the IE component program. If you want to re-use the automatic installation function of Internet Explorer, set "Disable Automatic Installation of Internet Explorer Components" to "disabled.

In the same way, you can set the "Disable regular check for Internet Explorer Software Updates" option to customize whether to perform regular IE updates.

6. Undo Windows XP Auto restart and send error reports automatically

Is Windows XP automatically restarted after some error prompts are displayed when Windows XP is used? This is because Microsoft has designed the automatic restart function, but for some users, this function is not helpful, instead, data that has not been saved can be lost.

Right-click the "my computer" icon on the desktop (or the "my computer" icon in the Start Menu) and select "properties" in the pop-up menu ", in the displayed Properties window, switch to the "advanced" tab, and click the "Settings" button in the "Start and fault recovery" group, in the displayed window, undo the "auto restart" check box.

Similarly, on the "advanced" tab, click "Error Report". In the displayed "Error Report" window, select "Disable Error Report, undo the "notify me when a serious error occurs" check box, and click "OK" to return. The system error report will not bother you any more.

7. Undo the taskbar similar to the group

The group similar taskbar function can automatically group similar taskbar buttons when too many task windows are opened. After grouping, multiple windows opened by the same program will be folded into one button, the left-click button will show all the windows. You can close these windows at one time by right-clicking the button.

However, this function may cause us to fail over in Multiple Task windows. If you want to disable it, right-click the blank area of the task bar, in the pop-up menu, select "properties" and click "group similar Taskbar" in the "Taskbar" tab.

In fact, this function makes it easier for users to manage windows, but the system groups the taskbar too early. We can customize this function by modifying the Registry: in the Registry Editor, expand the primary key [hkey_current_softwaremicrosoftwindowscurrentversionpoliceradvanced], in the right window, create a two-byte key value item "TaskbarGroUPSize" (DWORD Value Type) and assign values to the expected number of windows. For example, set it to 8, after eight windows are opened in the taskbar, the system groups the taskbar.

8. unhide the inactive icon

When there are many icons in the system tray, Windows XP will automatically detect and hide the icons that have been inactive for a period of time. Do not like the system to be smart. Use the following method to disable it: Right-click the blank area of the taskbar and select "attribute" in the shortcut menu that appears ", in the "Taskbar" tab, click "Hide unactive icon" to cancel the operation. Of course, users who think this function is useful can click the "Custom" button to hide and display projects by themselves, and use this function purposefully.

9. Undo the Desktop Cleanup Wizard

By default, the system automatically runs the Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days, this wizard will move the shortcut icons that you have not used in the last 60 days to the new "unused Desktop shortcuts" folder on the desktop.

The undo method is quite simple: Right-click the desktop, select "properties" from the shortcut menu, and select the "desktop" tab in the "Display Properties" dialog box, click the "Custom desktop" button to undo the "run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days" check box in the "General" tab item.

10. Cancel the disk space report

When there is little space left on the disk in one partition of the hard disk, Windows XP will pop up a prompt box on the taskbar without stopping users. You also need to use the Registry Editor to undo it. Expand the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft] branch in sequence, and create a "NoLowDiskSpaceChecks" double-byte key value item in the right window, assign a value of "1". The value takes effect after the system is restarted.

Of course, there are many other projects that Delete the built-in functions of Windows XP, such as the "sysoc. the inf file deletes unnecessary hidden installation components (11. The file contains hidden attributes in the C: WINDOWSinf folder) and closes the debugger Dr. watson, disable system restoration, and so on. I'm sure you're familiar with these skills.
