In-depth discussion on Wireless Broadband Router Nic access

To understand the performance of a Wireless Broadband Router, You need to test its application performance. In the application performance test, there are two items) PRO/Wireless 2200BG. The first objective is to test the single-host access capability at different distance and obstacle intervals. The second item focuses on evaluating the service level and overall throughput of each client under multi-point access conditions.

In the first test, performance data for Cisco Linksys WRT54GS wireless broadband routers and Buffalo WZR-RS-G54 wireless broadband routers was 10%-higher than most products ~ 20%. (1) It is worth noting that when the distance from the room is 10 meters away, the wireless connection signal is still very strong, indicating that in the most common scenario, you can continue to enjoy high-quality wireless connections.

In the second test, we simulated the download of files from multiple clients in the SOHO enterprise from the server, and all the five laptops were connected using the Chinese version. As a result, there was no client that could not be connected or dropped in the middle, and there was no client outside the room (10 meters away) as we expected) the performance is significantly lower than that of the client in the room. Because of the strong signal, the throughput between the five laptops and the file servers connected to the Mbps Ethernet interface is almost equal. Taking ASUS as an example, the total throughput of the five communication pairs reaches 25.405 Mbps, And the throughput of the five communication pairs is 5.171, 5.248, 4.802, 5.251, 5.053 Mbps, respectively, among them, Mbps is the only performance data of an access point located outside the room.

As multiple acceleration mechanisms are out of the 802.11g standard, all participating wireless broadband routers bring their own supporting NICs. Let's take a look at the different speed-up methods of these products. The most famous is the Super G sort Mbps camp, where members are D-Link DI-624, NETGEAR WPN824, ruijie RG-WSG108R and TP-LINK TL-WR641G. In addition to these products that provide a Mbps wireless connection, other products also provide their own unique acceleration methods. For example, Buffalo's 125 Mbps AfterBurner and 125 * High Speed Mode, D-Link DI-624 + Speed Enhanced Mode, and Cisco Linksys WRT54GS's Speed Booster. What is the performance of the non-standard 11g speed-up mechanism? It has been tested to be ups and downs. We simulate two commonly used topologies. For WLAN-LAN connections and WLAN-WAN connections, we opened the fastest speed-up feature supported by the products under testing, and for products that do not yet provide speed-up, we made it still work in standard 11g mode.

The first topology: we have seen several amazing performances of the hundreds of megabytes of wireless connection products. Among them, the D-Link DI-624 will show the theoretical peak performance, reached 50.741 Mbps, and the performance curve is very stable. NETGEAR WPN824 also has good performance, reaching 45.259 Mbps. We tested only 2 meters away. (3) ruijie's RG-WSG108R also supports Super G. In the test, its TCP throughput peak is close to 50 Mbps, but it is not stable enough, during the five-minute test period, the average value is lower than the standard 11g. Therefore, this product adopts the standard 11g model in other test projects. The second type of topology: the products that start Super G for rapid expansion are no longer as sharp as above, but the performance is improved to a certain extent compared with the standard 11G. At this point the leader became the Buffalo WZR-RS-G54.

In this test, I also used Cisco's e-hpc 10000 Wireless Broadband Router to simulate upstream BRAS and end PPPoE. PPPoEoE is used in the configuration. These Wireless Broadband Router configurations are quite simple, and Cisco Linskys WRT54GS also provides practical tools such as traceroute. The PPPoE method will inevitably cause performance degradation. Our tests also confirm this. However, I would like to remind users that, from the perspective of broadband Internet access, the standard 802.11g product is also a good choice. After all, the narrow bandwidth of the broadband outlet is the deciding factor at this time.
