Set wireless encryption and change user name and password
With the popularization of wireless networks in modern homes, people's security protection needs are constantly increasing. But how can we make the wireless networks in the home more secure? Many users have made such a mistake and think that security protection operations are too complicated and difficult to set. Is that true? The answer is no. For ordinary home users, you only need a few simple operations to upgrade the wireless network security level in your home. Through these simple settings, we can't say anything about preventing hacker intrusion, but it is very effective to prevent network attacks by neighbors. How are you interested? Let's set it together with us.
Step 1: encrypt the Wireless Network
Get a wireless homeVroThe first step is to complete the basic settings of the wireless route. After you select a network access methodWireless Network Encryption,This is the most basic and important setting to protect wireless networks.
On the wireless routing Web configuration interface, we can find the "wireless network encryption" option in the "Wireless Settings" menu; if your wireless route has features such as "Quick Setting wizard", you can complete the setting of wireless network encryption in the "Wizard.
Wireless Network Encryption
There are three common wireless encryption methods: 64/128-bit WEP encryption, WPA encryption, and WPA2 encryption. Note that the effects of the three wireless encryption methods on the transmission rate of the wireless network are also different. Because the IEEE 802.11n standard does not support high throughput of unicast passwords with WEP encryption (or TKIP encryption algorithm), if you select the TKIP Algorithm in WEP encryption or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption mode, the wireless transmission rate will be automatically reduced to 11 GB (the theoretical value is 54 Mbps, and the actual test result is about 20 Mbps ).
That is to say, if the user is using 11n wireless products (300 M or M), then the wireless encryption method can only select WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK AES algorithm encryption, otherwise the wireless transmission rate will automatically decrease. If you are using a 11g product, the three encryption methods are compatible. However, we do not recommend that you choose WEP, an old and easier-to-crack encryption method.
Step 2: Modify the default user name and password
After setting wireless encryption, we need to modify the Default Login username and password of the wireless router. Why? The reason is very simple, because the default user name and password set by the wireless router of the same model or even the same manufacturer are almost the same at the time of factory. Users with a little experience can easily access the Web configuration interface of wireless routing several times to control your wireless network. Therefore, modifying the default user name and password is also necessary to protect the security of wireless networks.
Modify the default user name and password
After modification, do not forget to "save". The next time you log on to the Web interface of the wireless router, you need to enter a new user name and password.
Disable SSID broadcast, modify IP address, and disable DHCP
Step 3: Disable SSID broadcast and modify the SSID name
What is the SSID first? Simply put, it is the name of the wireless network that appears when you search for a wireless network. For enterprise users, this name is used to help employees find and connect to their own wireless networks. However, for personal home users, the public SSID will only lead to illegal intruders. Therefore, disabling SSID broadcast is also a good way to improve wireless network security.
In addition, we also need to modify the SSID name to create a personalized name. Because if you continue to use the default "D-Link", "TP-LINK", "Tenda" and other SSID names will be easily guessed by others, disabling the SSID broadcast will become meaningless.
Modify the SSID name to Disable SSID Broadcast
After the SSID broadcast is disabled, how do users know which wireless network to connect? In addition, how should we connect? You just need to refresh the wireless network list and then see a wireless connection with no name (blank). Double-click it, in the pop-up window, enter the personal SSID name and wireless key that you know to connect. (For example)
Connect to a wireless connection without an SSID
Step 4: Modify the default IP address and disable the DHCP server
What is DHCP? Simply put, it is a function that automatically assigns IP addresses to users connected to wireless networks, saving the trouble of manually setting IP addresses. So what is the function of disabling DHCP?
Once the DHCP function is disabled, illegal users who want to connect to your wireless network cannot automatically assign IP addresses, so they have to manually enter IP addresses, in order not to allow unauthorized users to easily guess the IP address segment of a wireless route, we must modify the default IP address of the wireless route. In this case, the illegal user must try each IP address segment one by one to connect to the network, which is very troublesome. We recommend that you disable DHCP and modify the default IP address. (For example)
Modify the default IP address and disable DHCP.
How can users connect to the wireless network after the DHCP function of the wireless route is disabled? You only need to manually set the IP address of the wireless network card.
Manual setting
The IP address entered manually must be in the same IP address segment as the IP address of the wireless router. For example, if the IP address modified by the wireless router is 192.168.23.1, the IP address of the wireless network interface> can be set: 192.168.23.X (X indicates any number ranging from 1 to). The default gateway and the IP address of the wireless route are the same.
More secure wireless: Enable MAC address filtering
Step 5: Enable MAC address filtering
After completing the above four basic settings, your wireless network has become more secure, but if you want to improve the security protection capability of the wireless network in your home, you must enable the MAC address filtering function.
What is MAC first? MAC is the abbreviation of MediaAccessControl Media Access Control Address. The MAC address is the unique address that the manufacturer assigns to each device when producing network devices. The manufacturer of the first 24 bits that identify the network card. The IDS produced by different vendors are different. The last 24 bits are the serial numbers of network devices specified by the manufacturer.
Enable the "MAC address filtering" function of the wireless router. In the MAC address list, enter the MAC address that is allowed to be connected to the network. In this way, the uniqueness of the MAC address can effectively prevent illegal users; even in the face of the very rampant "ENI", it can also play a very good role in protection.
Enable MAC address filtering
How can I view the MAC address of a wireless network adapter? The method is very simple. In "network connection", find the "wireless network connection" icon, right-click-> "status", and select "support"-> "details ", the "actual address" is the MAC address of your wireless network card.
View MAC address
In addition, you can click "start"-> "run"-> "run" in the displayed "run" window text box, enter "cmd", and then click "OK; enter "ipconfig/all" in the Command window and press Enter. the MAC address can also be found in the displayed results.
View MAC address
Note that when you enable the MAC address filtering function, you must check whether the filtering mode is "Allowed" or "disabled ".
Disable wireless connection and restrict Internet access time Using WPS
Step 6: Disable wireless networks and set the Internet access time
In fact, the most effective way to protect wireless network security is to disable the wireless network function so that illegal intruders can no longer access your network. Of course, the "close" here means that users do not use wireless networks.
Disable Wireless Network
Currently, only a few wireless routers are designed with external wireless switches.
