It is common for humans to lose things. If you forget your Windows logon password, you can retrieve it through the Ubuntu operating system.
The first thing you need to do is create a Live CD or USB flash disk with Ubuntu Linux installed. Ubuntu Live can be used to start the system and abolish the Windows password set earlier.
The easiest way is to download and run UNetbootin. This simple program will download the selected Ubuntu and install it in your USB flash drive.
Step 2: Install the open-source tool chntpw. You can install Synaptic Package Manager in Ubuntu.
To download chntpw, the new source must be set to the Universe software repository. Follow these steps: click Settings menu> Repositories in the new Settings window. Then, select "Community-maintained Open Source software (universe)" and click "Close ".
Then, click the Reload button to automatically download the latest package information in the Universe repository. Then, type chntpw in the quick search bar.
If the chnptw is displayed, select "Mark for Installation" and click "Apply" to install it.
Step 3: Use chntpw to change the password of Windows.
Mount and install Windows hard disks/Partitions
Open the hard disk and record the volume labels
Open the command line window (Applications> Accessories> Terminal)
Type the following command line:
Cd/media
Ls
Type: cd [hard disk volume tag you noted down earlier]
Type: cd WINDOWS/system32/config
To change the administrator password, type the command: sudo chntpw SAM
You can see several lines of command lines. The safest way is to select 1 and Press y to create a blank password.
If you select 2, you can change the password, but an error occurs.
To modify the non-administrator password, type the following command in command line mode: sudo chntpw-u [user name] SAM
