Inaccessible network neighbors

One day, my colleague Lu came to me and said that the two computers in my home could not implement network neighbors. Let me help her solve the problem. Haha, isn't the difficulty of plmm my chance? Of course, you need to display your level.

Fault symptom

When I got to the home of Xiaolu, I had a total of desktops and laptops in her house. Windows XP was installed on the desktop, and Windows XP and Windows 98 systems were installed on the laptop. In the past, computer companies were invited to use dual NICs to establish an equivalent network between desktops and laptops. The goal was of course to achieve network sharing. Since the previous two computers were connected to Windows XP, no problems were found. Recently, Xiao Lu needs to use a software that can only be installed under Windows 98, so he starts his laptop to Windows 98, what's annoying is that although Windows 98 can still access the Internet, download, chat, and browse through the desktop, it cannot find each other in "Network neighbors, there is no way to copy files.

Fault Cause

In the beginning, I thought whether this was a problem with IP Address Settings. However, whether it was set automatically or manually, it still did not work. The strange thing is that not only the "Network Neighbor" could not find the other party, even the local machine cannot be seen. Although the Internet can still be shared, but the LAN cannot access each other, the effect will be greatly reduced.
After N invalid retries and modifications, I suddenly thought that everything was normal when both computers were using Windows XP, but when one computer was using Windows 98, there was a problem, does this mean that a component is not installed in Windows XP? Yes, it is it! Windows 98 uses the netbeui protocol to support LAN, while Windows XP no longer supports this seemingly outdated netbeui protocol. Is it enough to add this netbeui to Windows XP?

Troubleshooting

Knowing the cause of the problem is much easier to solve. Fortunately, I brought a Windows XP installation CD, So I first boasted to Xiao Lu for a while and began to add the so-called netbeui protocol:
To solve the problem, you must add the netbeui protocol to the Windows XP system. First, you must copy some necessary files to Windows XP. Take out the Windows XP installation CD and switch to \ valueadd \ MSFT \ net \
In the netbeui folder, we can see three files: nbf.sys,netbeui.txt and netnbf. INF. This is the file we will use. Copy the NBF. SYS file to Windows XP \ windows \ system32 \
In the drivers folder, copy the netnbf. inf file to the \ windows \ inffile folder of the Windows XP system, and the netbeui.txt file is dispensable. Naturally, you don't have to waste time.
However, I couldn't find the INF folder in my host, that is, netnbf. inf could not be copied. What should I do now? Haha, it's hard to beat me this old bird. Select a connection from "Network Neighbor", open the "properties" window from the right-click menu, click the "Install" button, and then select the "protocol" item in the window in Figure 1, click "add". If netnbf. copy the INF file to the \ windws \ INF folder. The "netbeui protocol" item appears, but the INF folder cannot be found, so here we only see the content shown in figure 2. Simple, just select "Install from disk" from the window in Figure 2, then insert the Windows XP installation disk, step by step to \ valueadd \ MSFT \ net \
In the netbeui folder, find the netnbf. inf file and click "OK" to install the netbeui protocol. Are you sure you want to fix it all?
So far, the problem can basically be solved. When I return to the figure 2 window and see the "netbeui protocol" item, I will know the success. Restart the system again, and the two machines can be normally accessed in "Network neighbors". Haha, MM worships me ......
