1. Expand disk space using a Windows VM
1) vmworkstation 6.5 and earlier versions
Run the following command: Vmware-vdiskmanager-x 40 Gb mydisk. vmdk
2) vmworkstation 7 and later versions
You can use method 1) or directly operate on the UI, as shown in the following figure. Use expand under utilities in Hard Disk in virtual machine settings:
In the expand dialog box, change the disk size to the new one.
3) vsphere
After logging on to the vsphere client, modify the hard disk in virual machine setting as follows:
Note:When snapshots or virtual machine uses linked clone, an error is reported, which must be converted using VMware converter.
4) after 1), 2), or 3), the disk has been increased, but it is not seen in the virtual machine, you need to perform the "extend volume" Operation in "Computer Management-disk management" of the virtual machine.
Expand unallocated disks as follows:
Ii. Linux vmvm expands disk space
(1) adding a disk is similar to operating a Windows VM. (1), 2), and 3 ).
(2) After the disk is added, the system cannot see the new disk. perform the following steps (3 ).
(3) Start the Linux operating system in the VM environment and add new partitions. the root account is required.
3.1 [fdisk-L] The maximum partition is/dev/sda3, indicating that the new partition will be sda4
3.2 enter "fdisk/dev/SDA]
3.2.1 enter m at the command line prompt]
3.2.2 enter the command [N] to add a new partition.
3.2.3 enter the command [p] to create the primary partition.
3.2.4 enter [Press enter] and select the default size, which will not waste space.
3.2.5 enter [Press enter] and select the default start cylinder.
3.2.6 enter [w] And keep Modification
3.3 enter [reboot] to restart Linux. Reboot is required; otherwise,/dev/sda4 cannot be formatted.
3.4 In this case, the new partition such as/dev/sda4 can be seen under the/dev/directory.
3.5 [mkfs. ext2/dev/sda4] format
3.6 create the disk4 directory under the root directory
3.7 Mount/dev/sda4/disk4/to/disk4/
3.8 modify the/etc/fstab file in Vim, add a line [/dev/sda4/disk4 ext2 defaults 0 0], and save the line to enable automatic mount upon startup.
Now, the new disk space capacity is displayed on disk4, And the partition is automatically mounted after the instance is restarted.
3. Add new disk space
If the current disk has no capacity to expand, you can add a disk. On the VM main interface, select the VM drop-down menu, select Settings, and add a disk using Add, then enter the system to add a new disk, which is similar to the above operation and will not be repeated.
