Reporting Services is a server-based report generation platform built on. NET Framework and integrated with SQL Server 2000. Although the report server uses SQL Server as the report repositoryProgramAny data source can be used to provide data for reports, which makes reporting services an excellent tool for generating reports in various enterprise environments. Therefore, you can use an extended web service-based API to integrate rich report generation functions into applications.
The above is an introduction to generating user-friendly reports from applications using SQL Server reporting services on msdn, which is very attractive to me. Although I am not a new technology enthusiast, I sometimes catch up with the trend. I used to like web pages in college, but it was funny to say that web pages do not understand the so-called dynamic technologies (Asp, JSP, and PHP). Instead, I only use Dreamweaver to design static pages, at best, it is an artist. Later I graduated from college, and I went to the technology in a bad way. I caught up with fashion and used it for my life. net, and now we have jumped from the feudal society (HTML) to Socialism (Asp.net.
It's not easy to get back to reporting services. It takes a long time to install it.
1. Download
1. Download the evaluation version of Reporting Services (120 days ).
2. Download SQL Server 2000 sp3a (the Report Server database must contain the SQL Server 2000 sp3a server ).
Ii. Install and deploy instances
Before installing the Reporting Services Evaluation edition, I first typed SQL Server 2000 sp3a on my computer. Next, install the Reporting Services evaluation version. To save trouble, I want to install the server and client on my computer. When the database can be installed, a prompt is displayed, saying that my database version does not support reporting services. My computer is Windows XP Professional SP2 + SQL Server 2000 SP3, according to the introduction, the software installation requirements should be met. No way, I had to find a Windows 2000 Server SP4 + SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition SP3 and install the client on my own computer, the database in the client instance must be installed on the local database. This solves the installation problem.
When installing the client, I installed samples of reporting services. Click Start-all programs-Microsoft SQL Server-reporting services samples, use vs 2003 to open the samplereports solution, and click Properties of the samplereports report project, modify the targetserverurl (the default installation address is http: // localhost/reportserver) and the shared data source. (Why modify it, because my client and server are not installed on the same computer ). After the deployment is complete, right-click the project samplereports deployment.
Iii. Report Server and Manager
Report Server usage. Open IE, type http: // Report Server IP Address/reportserver, and you can see the newly deployed folder samplereports. Here it is expanded by directory, unfortunately, when I open the report company sales, I am prompted about the database link. The report cannot be displayed. There is no error in viewing the shared data source. It's strange. Then I wondered if it was a problem with the XP firewall on my computer? Because the instance database is installed on my PC. I tried to shut down the firewall. The following figure shows the texture of the company sales report:
In addition to the Report Server, there is also a report manager. Open IE and enter the http: // Report Server IP Address/reports. For detailed configuration and usage, see help.
Iv. Summary
Although the installation has encountered some troubles, but the functions of reporting services are indeed powerful, it is a great boon for me to be enterprising Information Workers (Crystal Reports are also very convenient to use, but it is still troublesome ). We strive to have a good understanding and learning experience in 120 days, and make good use of webform and winform. We also hope to share our learning experience with you.
