Insert Page number in Word2003 document

In the Word2003 document, if the user only needs to insert page numbers without other actions on the header and footer, you can directly execute the Insert page number command without entering the header and footer editing state, as described in the following procedure:

Step 1th, open the Word2003 document window and position the insertion point cursor in the section where you want to insert the page number. Click the Insert → page number menu command in the menu bar, as shown in Figure 2010060701.

Tip: If the current Word document doesn't have a section, the default is to insert page numbers for the entire Word document.

Step 2nd, in the Open Page Number dialog box, click the Position drop-down button to select the page number position in the Drop-down list (including the header, footer, vertical center, portrait inside, and vertical outside of the five locations). Then click the Alignment drop-down triangle button, and select the page number alignment in the Drop-down list (including the left, center, right, inside, and outside of the five alignment). Set finish click the Format button, as shown in Figure 2010060702.

Tip: In the Page Number dialog box, select the Show page number on first page check box, and page number will appear in the current Word document 1th. If page 1th of the current Word document is a cover page and you do not need to display the page number, you can cancel the first page numbering check box. In the preview area, you can preview where you want to insert the page number.

Step 3rd, open the Page Number Format dialog box, and in the number format Drop-down list, you can select the number format (including Arabic numerals, English letters, and uppercase Chinese numerals) that the page number will be used for. Select the Include chapter number check box to insert the current chapter number before the page number, and to customize the starting page number in the page numbering area. Set Finish Click OK, as shown in Figure 2010060703.

Step 4th, return to the page Number dialog box and click OK to see the inserted page number in the current Word document, as shown in Figure 2010060704.
