Install and configure MySQL in CentOS

1. Install MySQL database

$ Yum install mysql-server.i686

See the post-Installation Process in http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/zh/installing.html#unix-post-installation 2.9.2 Unix

2. Start MySQL server

Mysqld_safe -- user = mysql -- skip-grant-tables &

3. Install the system table

Mysql_install_db -- user = mysql

4. Set the root password

<Mysql-u root

Mysql> use mysql;

Mysql> update user set password = PASSWORD ("NEW-ROOT-PASSWORD") where User = 'root ';

Mysql> flush privileges;

Mysql> quit

5. Start mysql

Service mysqld start

6. Stop mysql

Service mysqld stop

Note: After you forget the root password, perform Step 1 and 3 to reset the root password.
