Install and uninstall both Vista and XP systems

First of all, I would like to thank member chzhlh. I have always kept a conservative idea about the start of both Vista and XP systems and followed the previous experiences. It is because of the enthusiastic reminder of chzhlh that I have gained a new understanding of the problem of the dual system.
There are many methods and conclusions about Vista and XP. I would like to give you a detailed explanation of all the questions about using Vista and XP. If you have any omissions or errors, please do not hesitate to inform us. Thank you.

PS: some posts in the Past house have been found to be problematic by members. This post is specially posted for correction and summary.

I. About Vista and XP Dual Boot problem :( it is recommended to install in different partitions, install in the same partition see repost link http://bbs.vista123.com/thread-68982-1-2.html)
Case 1: XP is on drive C and you want to install Vista again. This situation is relatively easy. You only need to install Vista directly in other partitions after the optical drive is started. Or directly run the vistaphotodisk (it can also be the setup.exe in the Virtual Drive vistaphotodisk ))( do not choose to upgrade and install)

The difference between the two is that when the optical drive is started and installed, the drive letter of the partition where Vista is installed is changed to C, and the drive letter of C in the original XP is changed to d in Vista, and other drive letters are also changed.
If you run Setup installation in XP, the drive letter after Vista and the drive letter in XP will not be misplaced.

Scenario 2: Vista is on the C drive and you want to install XP. In this traditional dual-system installation method, you cannot see the OS selection menu.

If the installed Vista is activated through the vistaloader (softmod) core software, we strongly recommend that you use this method for restoration. If the disc or bootpro is repaired, the activation fails or the device cannot access Vista.

Do not use vista to install the disc for restoration:
1. Under Vista, click Start-all programs-Attachments-right-click "command prompt (CMD)" and select Run as administrator.
2. Enter the command

Bcdedit/create {ntldr}/D "Windows XP Professional"
Bcdedit/set {ntldr} device partition = C:
Bcdedit/set {ntldr} path/ntldr
Bcdedit/displayorder {ntldr}/addlast
Bcdedit/timeout 5

After restart, the dual-system boot menu will appear normally and you will still choose to enter the Vista system.
Note: Normally, only the second and fourth sentences are required. To prevent some earlier vista from using the ghost version and streamlining the BCD content, all the five commands are provided.
Note: If you do not have to directly install XP in Vista, and you cannot boot Vista directly into XP, you can also operate in the command prompt of the XP system. before the operation, run one more command path C: /Windows/system32, and then execute the preceding five commands in sequence

3.download bootsect.rar (see the attachment), decompress the package, copy bootsect. EXE to the C-drive root directory, and the dual-system boot menu appears after restart.

The latest vistaloader v3.0.0.1 is supported in a 64-bit system and activated vistaloader]

4. Install Windows XP on an XP installation disc
5. At the command prompt, enter C:/bootxxxx/nt60 sys (depending on the bootsect, for example, boot64vl to boot64vl/nt60 sys)

Note: bootsect is provided by the chzhlh predecessors. Please select it based on your individual needs.

2. dual systems are changed to single systems. All four cases are provided for your convenience.
Note: 1. If you delete part of the content below, you may be prompted for insufficient permissions or access denied. You can download the software unlocker to solve this problem.
2. The content shown below is tested in person. Normal operations without other interference can ensure normal operations, but prevent improper operations. You can keep all the boot files mentioned below in advance for backup. (Vista and XP)
(1) Keep copying boot. INI; bootfont. bin; Io. sys; msdos. sys; ntdetect. com; ntldr; boot (folder); autoexec. BAT; bootmgr; config. sys; bootsect. bak
(2) at the command prompt. Retain the BCD file bcdedit/export "X:/XXX/BCD" under boot to restore the BCD file bcdedit/import "X:/XXX/BCD" (X: /XXX is a folder under a partition)

Scenario 1: partition C is vista, partition D is XP, and you want to uninstall XP
1. Enter Vista, start -- all programs -- attachments -- Right-click to run "command prompt" as Administrator"
2. Enter the following command: bcdedit/displayorder {ntldr}/remove
3. organization-folder and search options-View-cancel "Hide protected system files" and select "show all hidden files", and then delete XP boot files ntldr and boot. INI, ntdetect.com, bootfont. bin, Io. sys, msdos. sys
4. format the D partition where XP is located.
Case 2: The C partition is XP, and the D partition is vista. You want to uninstall Vista.
1. Download bootsect.rar under XP, decompress the package, and copy bootsect. EXE to the C-drive root directory (for the selection of bootsect, see the blue italics installed on both systems) (see the attachment ),
2. Start -- all programs -- attachments -- run "command prompt"
3. Enter the following command: bootsect/nt52 sys (remove multiple OS options of the Vista startup Manager)
4. tools -- Folder Options -- View -- deselect "Hide protected system files" and select "show all hidden files" to delete the boot file of Vista: boot folder, bootmgr, bootsect. bak
5. format the D partition where Vista is located.

Case 3: partition C is vista, partition D is XP, and you want to uninstall Vista (similar to case: 2)
Method 1:
1. Download bootsect.rarand copy bootsect.exe to the c root directory.
2. Start -- all programs -- attachments -- command prompt (or start -- run -- cmd)
3. Enter the following command: C:/bootsect/nt52 sys (cancel multiple OS selection of Vista startup manager)
4. tool-Folder option-View-cancel "Hide protected system files" and select "show all hidden files" to delete the C drive except ntldr and boot. INI, ntdetect.com, bootfont. bin all files and folders other than the four files
Note: When deleting files, you cannot delete them with the software unlocker.

Method 2:
1. go to XP, select Tools -- Folder Options -- View -- Cancel "Hide protected system files", select "show all hidden files", and copy ntldr and boot under drive C. INI, ntdetect.com, bootfont. bin files are backed up under the new folder in Windows (Windows) (for example, copy these four files to the AA folder in Windows on D)
2. Start -- all programs -- attachments -- command prompt (or start -- run -- cmd)
Attrib-r-H-s d:/Windows/AA /*.*
3. Restart the boot with an xp cd, select R to enter the console, enter the administrator password of the XP system (if there is no password, press enter directly), and then enter the prompt status.
3. type the following commands in sequence
Format C:/Q (different command lines in the console, note the space)
C:
Copy D:/Windows/AA/ntldr
Copy D:/Windows/AA/ntdetect.com
Copy D:/Windows/AA/bootfont. Bin
Copy D:/Windows/AA/boot. ini
Exit

Case 4: partition C is XP, partition D is Vista, and you want to uninstall XP (similar to case: 1)
Method 1:
1. Enter Vista, start -- all programs -- attachments -- Right-click to run "command prompt" as Administrator"
2. Enter the following command: bcdedit/displayorder {ntldr}/remove
3. organization -- folder and search options -- View -- deselect "Hide protected system files" and select "show all hidden files ", delete all files and folders except the boot folder and bootmgr in the partition where XP is located.

Note: When deleting files, you cannot delete them with the software unlocker.
Note: The "partition where XP is located" concept is used in 3. In this example, the partition where XP is located may not be C in the Vista system. For details, refer to Case 1 during system installation, so here we use "partition where XP is located"

Method 2:
1. Use the Vista system installation disk to start the installation screen and directly format the C partition without installation.
2. if you use the Vista installation CD to repair your computer, you will be prompted to fix it and restart it. If you use the CD again after the restart, you will find that the Vista Installation option is selected, and then you will continue to choose to repair your computer, then the identified Windows Vista system appears, select next, and select "start repair ". After the restart, you can enter the Vista system.

3. modify other content of the startup Manager(This can be done by many people, and it is very convenient to use the Vista optimization master, but it should be written below for completeness)
1. Modify "earlier Windows versions" to be familiar with "XP"
Operation: Run cmd to enter the command prompt: input: bcdedit/set {ntldr} description "Mircosoft Windows XP"
2. Modify the selected time:
Operation: Run cmd to enter the command prompt: input: bcdedit/timeout 10

4. stable and reliable OS download:
Windows Vista Ultimate OEM + msdn SP1 (32-bit/64-bit) http://bbs.vista123.com/thread-65095-1-1.html
