Double Commander is a free, open-source, cross-platform Resource Manager software. It supports Linux, Mac, windows, FreeBSD, and other operating systems. It is jointly created by many authors and supports the WCX, WDX, and WLX plug-ins of Total Commander, all benefiting from its open source feature.

For Ubuntu and its derivative versions, you can install Double Commander 0.5.9 Beta using PPA, which is very convenient and supports the following systems: ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 12.04, Linux Mint 17, Linux Mint 16, Linux Mint 14, Linux Mint 13, and Elementary OS 0.2.
Open the terminal, add the PPA source, and update the command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexx2000/doublecmd
sudo apt-get update
Install doublecmd.
Installation commands for GTK-based desktop environments:
sudo apt-get install doublecmd-gtk
QT-based desktop environment installation command:
sudo apt-get install doublecmd-qt
Run Double Commnder and enter the following command on the terminal:
echo "alias doublecmd='nohup doublecmd &>/dev/null &'" >> ~/.bashrc
Delete the recently added PPA and restore the doublecmd version. Run the following command:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:alexx2000/doublecmd
