Currently, the official Linux package of Eclipse is compiled and can be used directly after decompression, but it is not displayed in the System Application List, which makes it inconvenient to use. It may be displayed after online installation. However, the network conditions cannot be guaranteed for nearly m items such as Eclipse, so the download is good, and it will save some trouble in the future.
The following operations are performed under the root permission.
After downloading the compressed package, decompress it to/opt and name the folder by yourself. I have two versions of Eclipse: C/C ++ and Java, for example:
Run the following command:
Cd/usr/share/applications/
$ Gedit eclipseJava-user.desktop
The applications folder contains many programs. The eclipseJava-user.desktop file can be named by yourself and edit the following content in this file
[Desktop Entry]
Comment = Java IDE
Name = EclipseJava
Exec =/opt/eclipseJava/eclipse
Encoding = UTF-8
Terminal = false
Type = Application
Categories = Application; Development;
Icon =/opt/eclipseJava/icon. xpm
Save, you can see the EclipseJava link in the system menu. The steps for C/C ++ version of Eclipse are similar, except that the desktop file name is different and the path should be set by yourself.
The effect is as follows:
