The installation process for Active directory is very simple, and the experimental environment is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. The installation CD for the operating system may be used in the installation, please put the CD in the CD drive before starting the following steps.
1. Start--> run-->dcpromo, OK.
2. Activie Directory Installation Wizard appears, the warm prompt just, next.
3. Installation wizard step two, tips on compatibility. Because of the rigorous security measures for Windows Server2003 domain controllers, some earlier versions of the operating system, such as Windows95, Windows NT4.0 SP3, or earlier, will not be able to pass through Windows Server 2003 domain controllers log on and access resources for the domain. Of course, these old versions of the operating system are rare now, so in general, there will be no compatibility issues, direct next.
4. Select the type of domain controller, because the experiment is to create a new domain, so select "domain controller for the new domain." If you want to select an additional domain controller for an existing domain, be sure to see the following prompts and then proceed cautiously to prevent data loss. Next.
5. Select the type of field. There are three types, which are described in detail below each item in the wizard. Here you need to create an entirely new domain, so select domains in the New forest, and then next.
6. Enter the name of the domain to which this controller belongs, abc.com, or DNS. In the following steps, the wizard runs DNS diagnostics to determine if a DNS address has been configured for the domain controller, followed by detailed information. Next.
7. Specifies the NetBIOS name of the domain. The Setup Wizard specifies the default NetBIOS name, such as ABC, and does not need to be modified to leave the default. Next.
NetBIOS (network basic Input output System) network basic input export systems, developed by IBM company. NetBIOS defines a software interface and a standard method of providing communication interfaces between applications and connected media. NetBIOS is a session-level protocol applied to various LANs (Ethernet, Token ring, etc.) and WAN environments, such as TCP/IP, PPP, and X.25 networks. The NetBIOS name is specified here for compatibility reasons.
8. Specify database and log file folders. Since it was an experiment, the default path was not changed. As a hint, in the actual application environment, it is best to save them on separate hard disks for optimal performance and ease of recovery later. Next.
9. Specifies the folder in which the shared system volume resides. Note that when you want to customize the folder path, be sure to ensure that the hard disk on which the folder resides is an NTFS partition. This stays the same, next.
DNS Registration Diagnostics. As you can see from the prompts, the DNS of the domain controller is not properly configured before the installation, causing the diagnostics to fail. As the first domain controller in the domain, a static IP address is required and the preferred DNS server is itself. Can be set before installation, or you can set it next. Then select install and configure the DNS server on this computer and set this DNS server as the preferred DNS server for this computer (S). ", Next.
11. Set permissions on domain controllers. Select "For Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating system compatible permissions", Next.
12. Enter the administrator password for the directory Restore mode. Note that this password is not the password of the domain controller administrator, but rather the password used when performing the directory restore service, so keep in mind. Enter the password, next.
13. Summary of configuration information for the previous steps. Here you can do a check, no problem, direct next.
14. The installation process starts.
15. In the installation process, you need to configure a static IP address prompts, OK.
16. Configure the static IP address, note that the preferred DNS server is its own IP. Enter each address, OK.
17. Wait for some time after the installation is complete. Complete.
18. When you click Finish in the previous step, you will be asked to restart your computer. After restarting, open the Administrative Tools menu and see the new menu items associated with Active Directory. At this point, Active directory installation is complete.
