Install Google Drive Linux client Grive2 0.5.1 on Ubuntu 16.04

Grive2, an unofficial Google Drive client, is a simple Linux client application. You only need to download all the files in your Google Drive to the current directory. After you modify the file locally and run Grive again, it will upload and change it back to your Google Drive.

Features

  • New files created locally or in Google Drive will be uploaded or downloaded respectively
  • Deleted files will also be "removed"
  • Currently Grive will NOT destroy any of your files: it will only move the files to a directory named. trash or put them in the Google Drive trash
  • You can always recover them.

There are a few things that Grive does not do at the moment:

  • Continously wait for changes in file system or in Google Drive to occur and upload. A sync is only running med when you run Grive.
  • Symbolic links support.
  • Support for Google documents ENTs.

Grive2 0.5.1 highlights:

  • No-remote-new and upload-only modes
  • Ignore regexp does not persist anymore (note that Grive will still track it to not accidentally delete remote files when changing ignore regexp)
  • Added options to limit upload and download speed

Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus), Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet), and Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) install Grive2 0.5.1

Now, as long as you want to synchronize files/folders and go to the "Synchronize" folder from your Google Drive, run the following command:

Bkjia @ bkjia :~ $ Cd/home/bkjia/sync/

Bkjia @ bkjia :~ /Sync $ sync

Note that you do not need to have the "-a" parameter each time. Because we have performed authentication with Google Drive.

Install Grive-tools, a Front-end for Grive GUI.

Working from the command line is a little difficult for beginners. Therefore, the fansclub team developed a GUI frontend called grive-tools for Grive ..

First, add grive-tools PPA as a derivative product of Ubuntu 15.04 and earlier versions and other Ubuntu versions.

Sudo add-apt-repository ppa: thefanclub/grive-tools
Sudo apt-get update
Sudo apt-get install grive-tools

Configure Grive

After installing Grive and Grive-tools, you should configure Google accounts for Grive. Open it from the terminal: sudo grive-setup

Click Next to log on to your Google account.

You shoshould configure Google accounts for Grive. Search for "Grive Setup" either from the Menu or Dash. Also you can open it from the Terminal by typing "sudo grive-setup ":

A new browser window is now available. Please log on to your Google account. Enter your Gmail credential and allow Grive to access your Google Drive. The verification code is displayed. Copy/paste the code in the Grive window, and click Next to continue.

Now, the installer will create a folder named Google Drive hard Drive (for example,/home/bkjia/Google Drive) in your home folder, and synchronize all the file drives from Google to the local folder.

After the synchronization is complete, you should see a confirmation message: the installation is complete.

Click Finish to complete the installation.

Now you can see that all files in Google Drive will be found in the Google Drive folder of your local system.

You can go to the local Google Drive folder in your home directory. See the following.

From now on, the copied and pasted files/files must be synchronized to your online Google Drive account folder in the local Google Drive folder.

OK. Start to use Google Drive on Ubuntu Desktop.

Cheers!
