Install Windows XP + solaris10 on hp3172 wide screen laptop (2)-system installation and configuration

3. Install the Operating System

1. installation is so simple

Here we use RAID (Automatic Installation of DVDs) for installation. Raid uses jumpstart for installation, which is equivalent to one-click restoration in windows. The entire installation process takes less than half an hour, and various drivers and useful software are pre-installed.
At the beginning of installation, the system will ask you if the video card and keyboard you set are correct. If not, you can reset/test. This is a very painful process. So we press F3 to pass it directly.
Then you can have coffee.

After about half an hour, the system will be installed when the "unlock" of the optical drive pops up. Now we can enter the beautiful Java Desktop.

Look! System installation is so simple. Thanks to Sun
IsV's hard work enables our cainiao to enjoy the beautiful Solaris in such a simple way.

2. reset the system information.

Run "sys-unconfig" on the terminal and the system will prompt you if you want to clear all settings. Enter "Y ". The system clears all settings and restarts. After the restart, the system prompts you to set the language, time zone, and IP address in wizard mode.

In this process, you may find some hardware devices, such as NICs and graphics cards. My Nic was found at this time. The graphics card is also automatically configured at this time.
4. install and configure the NIC.
1. Intel PRO/100 ve network connection
If your network card is not automatically recognized, try to manually add it. The previously recorded hardware ID is used here.
Add a line in/etc/driver_aliases:
Iprb "pci8086, 1092"
This line of text indicates that the hardware numbered pci8086 and 1092 are driven by iprb.
2. Intel PRO/wireless 3945abg Network Adapter
The wireless NIC driver needs to be downloaded by yourself. See the appendix. For the installation method, see the download page. For the IP configuration method, see the Solaris 10 user manual.
5. Install and adjust the video card.
My video card is automatically recognized, but the resolution is 1024*768, pulling the screen long.

Google: The Xorg version is too old (version 6. *) and cannot recognize intel 945 GM. We need to upgrade Xorg.
Xorg is a driver Configuration tool. The patch package 125720-10 contains xorg7.2, which can recognize intel 945 GM graphics cards. It configures the graphics card driver of Intel 945gm to i810.
I downloaded two patches: 123614-01 and 125720-10. Fix the two patches.
# Patchadd 123614-01
# Patchadd 125720-10
Restart and the video card is working properly.

6. Sound Card Installation

The sound card installation fee is too high for me. So far, there is no perfect solution. Sun official driver does not work, I downloaded the http://www.opensound.com TO THE oss-solaris-v4.0-1002-i386.pkg. Download and install:
# Pkgadd/D/etc/oss-solaris-v4.0-1002-i386.pkg
After installation, run the osstest command. The result is as follows:

# Osstest
Sound subsystem and version: OSS 4.0 (build 1004/200707062145) (0x00040002)
Platform: SunOS/i86pc 5.10 Generic_118855-14

The sound is sent out in the third line-audio Ming audio playback test.

(Tested, Version 4.1 has a slightly better effect .)

However, there is still no sound for RealPlayer to sing a song.
Run ossxmix
Select "mix" in the function option ". In this way, there is a sound.

We need to save the current settings:

/Usr/lib/OSS/etc/userdefs
, Set
Autosave_mixer Yes
Change
Autosave_mixer No

Set
/Usr/lib/OSS/etc/mixer. Save
Set speaker:
Connector. Speaker. Function 0001
Old value:
Connector. Speaker. Function 0001
Run ossxmix. The value displayed in the function bar of the speaker is mix.

Tip: the official method for saving settings is to enter savemixer in the console. I tried it and the storage failed. And,

Even if the sound card has been installed, an error will be prompted when the system is started:

It seems that the new version still needs to appear ~
