Install telnet, FTP, and other services in SuSE

By default, services such as telnet are not installed in SuSE. How can I install services such as telnet and FTP in SuSE. This article describes how to use this function.

YaST install Telnet Service 1. Open YaST and find install and remove software in [software.
Directly input # Su in text mode
# YaST

2. Enter Telnet in [Search] And then search.

3. telnet and telnet-server are listed in the result list on the right. If not selected, the telnet service is not installed. Select telnet-server. Then YaST will prompt you to insert the installation disc, follow the prompts to insert the corresponding disc.

4. After the installation is complete, start telnet, modify the/etc/xinetd. d/telnet file, and change disable to No.
4.1 open YaST, find system services, and enable the xinetd service.
4.2 or/etc/rc. d/init. d/xinetd restart start xinetd
4.3 confirm that the telnet service has been enabled with the firewall settings. # YaST Firewall
5. restart the system

6. Telnet localhost for test

The FTP service can also be installed in the same way.

Because telnet transmits data in plain text, we recommend that you use SSH instead of Telnet. For SSH settings, see the next page.

Configure Firewall and open the SSH service. # YaST Firewall

For example:

Move the cursor to [allowed services] and add the [add] SSH service.
Click [next]

After the system is restarted, the SSH service should be ready for use.
