First, you need to install IIS on a machine (preferably on the win2003 platform, which is not supported by the XP Home Edition). This is not complicated and I will not elaborate on it. Second, configure the SNMP protocol for the network device. Third, install software: Perl, mrtg. Fourth, configure later, and display the device traffic in a graphical interface. 1. Configure the network device SNMP protocol:
It is relatively simple to configure the SNMP protocol. Here we use cisco 2950 as an example:
Run the following commands:
(C snmp-server community 1130-acsw Ro specifies 1130-acsw as the read-only group name; (c snmp-server host 10.0.6.8 1130-acsw syslog sends the syslog trap of SNMP trap to the network management host 10.0.6.8; (c snmp-server enable traps enable the SNMP Trap (all here, can be listed separately if needed); simple SNMP protocol is configured. 2. download the latest Perl software. You can download the latest Perl software at the address below:
Http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/Windows/5.8/
For specific installation, click Next. it should be noted that after the installation is complete, you need to go to the system environment variable path to see whether there is c: \ Perl \ unzip decompressed to a specified directory, Here c: \ mrtg-2.14.7 prevail.
Download MRTG page: http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/pub/
After decompression, you need to do a test to verify that the MRTG installation is correct, In the run --> cmd to enter the c: \ mrtg-2.14.7 \ bin, and then enter the command: C: \ mrtg-2.14.7 \ bin> Perl MRTG, the running result is a friendly error message for the missing MRTG configuration file, but it doesn't matter, this indicates that your system has installed MRTG and Perl software. iv. Configure MRTG
1. Generate the MRTG configuration file of the device: create a sub-directory under the <DocumentRoot> directory of the WWW server to store the statistics file generated by mrtg. usually in this location c: \ Inetpub \ wwwroot \ MRTG;
2, in the start --> Run --> input cmd, enter the MRTG directory in DOS: C:> Cd c: \ mrtg-2.14.7 \ bin use Perl compiler maker to generate MRTG configuration file mrtg. CFG, the specific command is as follows c: \ mrtg-2.14.7 \ bin> Perl compiler maker 1130-ACSW06@10.0.6.16 -- Global "workdir: C: \ Inetpub \ wwwroot \ MRTG" -- output mrtg. the -- Global parameter indicates that the following options are valid for the specified device (this command is very effective for multiple devices ). workdir is used to indicate the working directory of MRTG, -- output mrtg. CFG indicates the generated configuration file mrtg. CFG is stored in the C: \ mrtg-2.14.7 \ bin directory, the 1130-ACSW06@10.0.6.16 indicates that the monitored device IP address is 10.0.6.16, use 1130-acsw06 as the community name to monitor the device 10.0.6.16 through the SNMP protocol (we strongly recommend that you do not use the default community name public ).
3, generate the device traffic chart: Once the correct configuration file is generated, run the command c: \ mrtg-2.14.7 \ bin> Perl MRTG mrtg. CFG, which reads monitoring data from the SNMP Device Using the generated configuration file. * Note: The alarm information may be prompted during the first three operations. You don't need to worry about it here (I think it is a software bug, huh, huh). As long as you run it three times in a row, no alarm information will be generated. however, if an alarm still occurs, your configuration file may be faulty. 5. Post-Configuration
1. Generate the index page:
After the preceding operations are completed correctly, you can access the http: // 10.0.6.8/MRTG/interface address in the browser to view the traffic information.
Invalid. run the: C: \ MS-DOS \ bin> Perl indexmaker -- output = "C: \ Inetpub \ wwwroot \ MRTG \ index.html" -- Title = windowmrtg mrtg in the mrtg-2.14.7 window. CFG: if it runs normally, the index.html page will be generated under the c: \ Inetpub \ wwwroot \ mrtgdirectory. Then, you can access the traffic information of all interfaces through http: // 10.0.6.8/mrtg. by default, this page is refreshed in 300 seconds. now, the simple MRTG configuration is complete. Of course, this is just a simple configuration. MRTG is a powerful monitoring software, it monitors and manages the CPU and other important resources of the device. therefore, if necessary, you are advised to go to the official website for query learning, preferably in Linux.
