It has been a month since Oracle was installed on Linux. after hitting the wall several times, I finally successfully installed Oracle11g and Oracle10g. There is no time to write step by step. For those steps, see the ORACLE Installation Guide. Fedora is a Community version of RedHat and is not authorized by Oracle for Linux. Therefore, installation may be somewhat frustrating. I use Fedora 9. The following are some notes:
1. To ensure smooth installation, you need to change the redhat-release file to the corresponding Redhat version. The reason for first installing 11g is: the Oracle 11g Installation check is relatively complete, you can prompt the lack of installation packages.
2. prerequisites for installation: the installation of Oracle is very simple. It is difficult to install many software packages in Fedora. These packages provide the compiling and running environment of ORACLE ,, you can install these packages according to the ORACLE Fedora Installation Guide of Oracle BASE, but they are not so perfect. Many packages are not installed during the installation process, generally, you can start another terminal after installation.
3. pay attention to the installation version selection, distinguish between 32-bit and 64-bit machines, and learn to view make. log: when installing 11g, an error occurs during 78% and the installation fails. After searching, you find that the installed version you selected is incorrect, select the x86_64 version as needed.
4. Modify the necessary environment variables. You can use the unset lang language command to set and install Oracle10g garbled characters.
5. uninstallation failed: I have experienced multiple installation failures. The uninstallation of ORACLE is relatively simple. I have killed the entire installation directory and rebuilt the directory. For historical versions with successful installation, you also need to find several relevant ora * files in the/etc/directory, and delete them to reinstall them.
6. Oracle 10gR2 x86_64 may encounter Error in invoking target 'collector 'ins_emdb.mk during installation,
Specific reasons:
? MessageID = 2478830
Tested installation on Fedora 8 x86_64. I 've got the same error during linking of nmccollector.
In fact you don't need nmccollector:
1) you are installing Oracle on non certified system for Oracle so it will be not probably in production
2) You can use "SQL Access" mode instead of "Memory Access" mode to check performance.
So you can ignore this error. If you apply patchset 10.2.0.3 or 10.2.0.4 then relink of nmccollector will be succesfull.
More about Memory Access Mode:
Ignore this error and continue the installation.
