After installation, you can install the nVIDIA driver.

Before installing the driver, you must first determine which type of nVIDIA graphics card you use. If it is a Geforce 4 series or earlier, you should install a 96 series driver. For the Geforce FX series graphics card, you should use the 173 series driver. If it is Geforce 6 or an updated video card, you should use the 180 series driver. We also recommend that you install the akmod package. to update the kernel, you can also enable the system to automatically compile the nVIDIA kernel module so that the old driver can be used in the new kernel.

For the graphics card of Geforce 6 or later, you can enter:

Sudo yum install akmod-nvidia akmod kmod-nvidia

Wait a moment to complete the installation.

For graphics cards of the GeForce FX series, you can enter:

Sudo yum install akmod-nvidia-173xx akmod kmod-nvidia-173xx

For Geforce 4 or older graphics cards, you can enter:

Sudo yum install akmod-nvidia-96xx akmod kmod-nvidia-96xx

After the installation is complete, restart the computer.

Manual installation method:

Generally, rpmfusion updates are relatively slow, because the drivers that have been debugged will be put on the update library for updates. If you use the latest video card model, the driver using rpmfusion may not support the latest video card, and the performance is not the best. So you can download the latest driver from the nvidia official website.

Before installation, you need to install the kernel package and the gcc compiler:

Sudo yum install gcc kernel -*

Then, for example, my GeForce 8600GT video card, the latest driver is 180.27, go to the nVIDIA official website to download the driver, the Encapsulation Format is run, after the download is complete, switch the computer to init 3 mode. Open the terminal:

Sudo init 3

The command line logon interface is displayed in the dark. Log On with the root account and enter the root account and password to use the command line interface. Then open the directory where the driver package is located.

For example, cd/home/fedora

Next

Sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.27-pkg1.run

The driver package is automatically decompressed, and the installation interface is displayed. Install the package as prompted. After the installation is complete, the program automatically exits to the command line interface. Enter

Nvidia-xconfig

Update the/etc/X11/xorg. conf file once and restart it.

Note: To manually install the driver, the driver needs to be re-installed every time the kernel is updated to ensure that the nVIDIA module adapts to the new kernel.
