The graph-driven DB29 installer can also run on Linux and UNIX platforms. At the same time, Linux and UNIX systems support distributed installation using response files. The values and parameters stored in the response file generated during the initialization process of the DB2 installation program on the system platform are actually the same as the content of the response file generated on the Windows platform mentioned above..

For DB2 version 9, Data Server installation is no longer a traditional operating system package. Therefore, you do not have to use operating system commands to install the DB2 database server as before. For example, in the AIX environment, you no longer use the installp command to install the DB2 product.

In Linux and UNIX environments, the administrator can select one of the following methods to install the DB2 Installer:

The recommended Installation Method for The db2setupDB2 product during installation. It is similar to the graphical Driver Installation program on the Windows platform, and can automatically detect and configure the communication protocol for the DB2 instance to be installed, for other installation methods, you must manually configure system parameters. To use db2setup in Linux and UNIX environments, you need to set Xserver to display the GUI. (This Tool can be downloaded from www.freeyuntop.org/wiki/software/xserveror another related network)

Db2_install installation script this tool is used by the system administrator on Linux and UNIX systems to manually install DB2. No users, user groups, instances, and configurations will be created during installation using this tool. This installation method is suitable for situations where the installation process needs to be better controlled or the user is familiar with the DB2 installation program.

The installation script of db2_install will install DB2 as required by the user. It is supported in English by default. If you need other language support during installation, you can add the-L parameter after the installation command. In addition, using the db2_install installation script does not allow users to freely select or cancel the ability to install components as they use custom installation methods in the db2setup installer. In fact, the result of using the db2_install installation script is actually a trade-off: more component control and automatic configuration are used during the installation process in exchange for fewer component control when all components are installed using db2_install with the support of the user-specified language. In contrast, the db2setup installer gives you more control over custom installation methods.

The response file is an ASCII code file that contains the installation options and configurations. This file can be transferred to the db2setup program, and then the installation program will install according to the value set in the file. This installation type will be introduced later in this chapter.

In addition, a tool is provided for users to perform manual installation in the operating system environment. You can manually install payloadfiles. A valid DB2 Content file is a compressed file that contains all the files and metadata of the installable component. Generally, this installation method is not recommended, so that it cannot automatically detect and configure the relevant information. Note: before installing the DB2 software based on the Linux server, you should ensure that your Linux release meets the Linux verification standards of the DB2 data server and the latest information about the Linux distribution products supported, visit the following URL in your browser: www-306.ibm.com/software/data/db2/linux/validate /. So far, this chapter describes how to install the DB29 data server in Windows. For the sake of completeness, next we will introduce the installation process in Linux or UNIX environment. Of course, this is not comparable to the installation details in Windows.

Before starting the DB2 installation program in Linux or UNIX, you must first confirm whether the system meets the following requirements:

Make sure that the selected system meets the memory or disk space requirements listed in the DB2 document or the corresponding README file.

You must have the root user permission to install DB2.

There must be an Xwindows software that supports graphical user interfaces to run the db2setup tool. The Xwindows server must run and ensure that the display mode is correctly set. For example, exportDISPLAY = 9.26.163.144: 0.

To run db2setup to install DB2 9, perform the following steps:

Log on to the operating system as the root user.

To install the CDROM file system, run the cd/cdrom/disk1 command to switch to the installation directory for storing the DB2 database product CD. cdrom indicates the Installation Point of the DB2 database product CD.

If you have a DB2 database product image, you must decompress the product file before installation. The common decompression software is GZIP. The following is an example of extracting the product file:

After that, decompress the product file and run the tar command, for example:

Enter the./db2setup command to start the DB2 installation program. The subsequent steps are roughly the same as in Windows.

After the installation is complete, DB2 database is installed in one of the following directories by default:

AIX, HPUX, Solaris/opt/IBM/db2/V9.1

Linux/opt/ibm/db2/V9.1

Of course, you can specify the installation path of your DB2 database product.
