This article explains how to install the Thunderbird mail client in a Linux distribution, such as Fedora, Ubuntu, and its derivative editions.

In many Linux distributions, the Thunderbird package is already included by default and can be installed using the default package management system, which:

    1. Make sure you have all the libraries you need
    2. Add a desktop shortcut to start Thunderbird
    3. Make Thunderbird accessible to all system users on the computer
    4. It may not provide you with the latest version of Thunderbird

To install Thunderbird from the system default warehouse:

    1. $ sudo apt-get install thunderbird [在基于 Ubuntu 的系统中]
    2. $ dnf install thunderbird [在基于 Fedora 的系统中]

As I said, installing from the default repository will bring you an older version of Thunderbird. If you want to install the latest version of Mozilla Thunderbird, you can use the PPA maintained by the Mozilla team.

In Ubuntu and its derivative editions, use the CTRL + ALT + T desktop to open the terminal and add the Thunderbird repository.

    1. $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

Next, use the apt-get update command to upgrade the package.

    1. $ sudo apt-get update

After the system upgrade is complete, install it using the following command.

    1. $ sudo apt-get install thunderbird

That's it, you've successfully installed the Thunderbird 45.6.0 in Linux. In the Thunderbird download page, Thunderbird also has packages for other operating systems.
