You can add PPA for installation in Ubuntu 14.04.
PPA is available and easy to install. Open the terminal and run the following command:
Sudo add-apt-repository ppa: nilarimogard/webupd8
Sudo apt-get update
Sudo apt-get install indicator-netspeed
After NETSPEED is successfully installed, log out and log on again. The software is automatically started on the Unity panel.
Run the following command to uninstall NETSPEED:
Sudo apt-get remove indicator-netspeed
