(Note: This article is only available in Fedoracore8 + nVIDIA, but not in other LINUX versions.) If you cannot enable desktop effects, first determine whether the PC has enabled 3D effects.

Enable the terminal to run glxinfo | grep rendering

If "direct rendering: Yes" is displayed, it is installed. If NO, the following steps are taken:

1. start the terminal, enter "su-" and press Enter. Then, enter the root user password (no echo) and press enter to switch to the root user permission status, if the root user is logged on, skip this step.

2. ensure Internet connection. Updating system components takes a long time and is not required. However, we recommend that you do this. Enter "yum-y update" and press Enter. If the problem of the Fedora software library causes an unsolvable software requirement relationship, such as the xine and xine-lib dependency problems that sometimes occur in Fedora Core 5, you can use the "-- exclude" parameter to exclude certain software packages, such as "yum-y update -- exclude = xine ".

3. after the update is complete, enter "rpm-ivhU http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm" (Note: It is ivhU, U is capitalized) and press enter to download and install the Livna automatic configuration program, in this way, you do not need to manually modify the repo file.

4. Now we can start to install the driver. Do not close the terminal window before using it.

If you are using a nVIDIA graphics card (or nVIDIA), perform the following operations:

1. Enter "yum-y install kmod-nvidia glx-utils" and press Enter. Note: If you are using a CPU that supports hyper-Threading Technology (such as the P series) or a dual-core CPU, replace "kmod-nvidia-smp" with "kmod-nvidia ", however, in most cases, yum automatically selects the appropriate version. If you are using a very old nVIDIA graphics card, you should use "yum install kmod-nvidia-96xx" or "yum install kmod-nvidia-legacy ".

2. After the installation is complete, restart the computer. If the installation is successful, a nVIDIA logo will flash for one or two seconds before the graphic logon window appears.

3. Open a terminal again, enter "glxinfo | grep direct", and press Enter. If "Direct rendering: Yes" is displayed, congratulations, the video card driver is running properly.
