Nanoserver is Microsoft's new low-level system on Windows Server 2016 that provides the bottom-most streamlined system for critical core businesses to reduce system footprint, improve performance, and reduce the frequency of patch updates and reboots.

Nanoserver is also a new installation option in Windows Server 2016, which is managed similarly to Server Core, but with a much smaller deployment size. It starts with the most basic package installation, and you can only add the roles or features that are required to the custom image. The service model of the Nano Server is a valid current Branch for business, and customers need Software Assurance to deploy this option in a production environment.

Prepare the installation CD ISO image for Windows Server 2016 first, and some processing is required on Windows 10.

Mount ISO can see the Nanoserver folder appears in the file structure, there are some processing scripts we need

There are nanoserver.wim files in this folder

Here we can also see packages's various function packs. These feature packs determine which of the Nanoserver (NS) you want to deploy is more focused on which feature without having to install additional features.

Here you can see DNS, failed clusters, IIS, and so on.

650) this.width=650; "height=" 338 "title=" clip_image003[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image003[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m01/88/1d/wkiom1fp7deayfmpaakyrtv6x7e347.png "border=" 0 "/>

Depending on the feature pack, the NS server can be used as a host that only provides hyper-V, or as a storage host that only provides an extended file server, or as a host that only provides DNS, and so on.

Let's start by deploying an NS virtual machine.

First, copy the G:\NanoServer\NanoServerImageGenerator folder to your local hard drive in the ISO.

Then run PowerShell as administrator to navigate to the Nanoserverimagegenerator folder, and then import the NS module

Import-module. \nanoserverimagegenerator-verbose

650) this.width=650; "height=" 183 "title=" clip_image004[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image004[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m00/88/1d/wkiom1fp7djw0qguaaeq4cizwew090.png "border=" 0 "/>

Next, create a Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition virtual disk, set the computer name and the guest driver that contains Hyper-V, set the administrator password

New-nanoserverimage-edition Standard-deploymenttype Guest-mediapath <path to root of media>-BasePath. \base-tar GetPath. \nanoservervm\nanoservervm.vhd-computername <computer name>

-mediapath the root path of the specified ISO

-basepath Specify a folder to create replication NS server reseal

-TARGETPATH specifies a path that contains file names and extensions to create a VHDX or VHD

Computer_Name specifying the NS computer name

After running, you will be prompted to set the Administrator password:

The Nanoservervm.vhd file appears after completion

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image006[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image006[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m00/88/1e/wkiom1fp7drs9bfwaakegpuebfs102.png "border=" 0 "/>

Next, you can create a new virtual machine in Hyper-V manager and specify the NANOSERVERVM.VHD to be generated when the hard drive is specified.

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image007[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image007[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m01/88/1e/wkiom1fp7duiuipwaagpzjhhiia374.png "border=" 0 "/>

Next start the virtual machine, boot speed I think it's super fast because it's too streamlined.

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image008[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image008[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m02/88/1e/wkiom1fp7dyxrzvhaaa3myl_ptq688.png "border=" 0 "/>

Enter the Administrator account password

First look at the network bar, because it is the Chinese version of the ISO so it may be the technical preview version of it, there is a block, but others can be seen

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image011[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image011[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m01/88/1a/wkiol1fp7d6gofdmaabahb_gwie289.png "border=" 0 "/>

See the details of the NIC

The other 3 are to set up the firewall's outbound and inbound and WinRM

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image013[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image013[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m02/88/1a/wkiol1fp7d_dt-v9aacl62cuz10765.png "border=" 0 "/>

Out of the station:

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image014[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image014[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m01/88/1e/wkiom1fp7ecg0hvoaadavtwg0ry289.png "border=" 0 "/>

WinRM

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image015[4] "style=" margin:0px;border:0px;padding-top:0px; Padding-right:0px;padding-left:0px;background-image:none; "alt=" clip_image015[4] "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/ Wyfs02/m02/88/1e/wkiom1fp7ehw_5ojaacuzeiromc691.png "border=" 0 "/>

You can then use PowerShell to remotely administer the NS server or manage it using the Remote administration tool to connect to the NS server.

Finally look at the size of the system, only 530M, I personally think is very cool:

650) this.width=650; "height=" 484 "title=" clip_image016 "style=" border:0px;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px; Padding-left:0px;background-image:none, "alt=" clip_image016 "src=" http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M00/88/1E/ Wkiom1fp7ekrwt-maagse0xnpkc867.png "border=" 0 "/>

Does it suddenly feel like VMware ESXI, but the interface is much simpler and even the colors are gone.
